So anyway we need a fast and tricky attacking left midfielder. In a dream world it would be someone who could play RvP's role as well but that's unlikely at best.

The worry is that without Gervinho and Santos/gibbs the boss will play Le Coq and Banyoun on the left and while meaty its hardly high flying and full of flair is it.

That'll be Wilshere. I think Wenger will look to play him out wide now. He's done his defensive training last season so he'll track back, but Wenger will definitely have a more attacking role for him in mind. It'll probably be in Gerv's position, IMO. Wenger loves Ramsey and won't take him out of the team. Song and Arteta are automatic picks so it leaves one of the wide-forward positions...similar to where Jack started out.

We need a lot of players. But the most urgent is an attacking mid. We haven't really bought replacements for Nasri and Fabregas and when you get in £60m odd in transfer fees, that's a bit annoying. Don't need one of those poncy Spanish types but a more powerful midfielder who can get goals would be ideal.

Niall_Quinn
04-01-2012, 02:04 PM
Not sure Arteta's place is guaranteed. He could well have been bought as cover for Jack. He's coming to the end of his career so he's more likely to play a squad role without fuss.

As a loan full-back in a desperate situation, it's not that mental really.

I doubt he's replacing Gibbs or Santos full-time.

But I'm sure it'll be rebuffed as 'disrespectful' by MON and Sunderland.

And seeing as Arsene WUMger is a great WUM, I'm sure it probably is disrespectful.

Arsenal's immediate hopes of signing German starlet Mario Gotze have been dashed after Borussia Dortmund revealed the playmaker will stay at the club for another season.
Responding to speculation over the 19-year-old's future, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said: "We have agreed with Mario that he plays next season in Dortmund.
"He has the contract to 2014 - we have no reason to sell him. But I am not a prophet. If tomorrow someone offers one billion euros, then you should think about it."
Gotze, who played a starring role in Dortmund's title triumph last season, is rated as one of the finest young players in the world having won the 2011 Golden Boy award for the best player in Europe under 21.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who is known to be a keen admirer of the German international, is rumoured to have launched a failed bid to sign Gotze on the last day of the August 2011 transfer window.

Jose Antonio Reyes has left Atletico Madrid and returned to his roots at their Primera Liga rivals Sevilla.

The 28-year-old began his career with Sevilla in 1999 and made close to 100 senior appearances for the club.

He left for Arsenal in 2004 and has gone on to take in spells with Real Madrid, Benfica and Atletico.

Reyes recently announced that he was keen to move back to Sevilla in order to be close to his ill father.
Done deal

He has been granted his wish, with a three-and-a-half-year contract having been put in place.

"Jose Antonio Reyes' transfer to FC Sevilla was sealed on Thursday morning," read a statement released on the club's official website.

It is reported that Sevilla have paid €3.5million (£2.9m) for Reyes, with an additional million euros due depending on the club's results.

Arsenal begin preliminary contract talks with Theo Walcott – reportWalcott (http://www.goonersweb.co.uk/forum/#), along with star striker Robin Van Persie, is out of contract at the end of next season and the Gunners are desperate to avoid further departures from the Emirates following Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri's moves to Barcelona and Manchester City respectively last summer.

Talks are in the very early stages, with no formal offer made by Arsenal and no demands put on the table by Walcott's representatives.

The north London outfit are currently focused on strengthening the side during the January transfer window, with Thierry Henry's loan deal reportedly close to being completed.

Walcott has made 19 appearances for Arsenal this season in the Premier League, scoring two goals. He joined the club from Southampton (http://www.goonersweb.co.uk/forum/#) in a deal that could be worth up to £12 million in January 2006.

Yeah, know nothing about Matias Suarez apart from some Belgian football fans on Twitter and Youtube videos. Sounds like it'd be a gamble and he's only burst into prominence in the last half-season. But he looks like he can play wide and take players on and 14 goals and 10 assists so far this season is impressive in any league, even for Belgium.

£10m doesn't seem too bad relative to some other sums paid for strikers these days.

Perhaps this is the alternative to Podolski, who doesn't want to jeopardise his Euro spot?

If Chamakh isn't being sold then I can't see how we'll be signing anybody. Why would we sign another striker with Chamakh and Park still at the club? I'm afraid Henry for a couple of months is all we'll see in this transfer window. Of course the fact it's Henry is a huge distraction which will probably get the board through to summer when they can think up another excuse.

Well, you're more than likely right.

The only way we get a striker in January is if we can a) shift Arshavin b) replace him and c) replace him with a player who can play up front effectively as well as outwide (and/or in the center). Podolski, in theory, is such a player but I don't think we'll be getting him unless a few things fall into place.

I would be more hopefuly we'd sign an experienced striker in the summer when Chamakh leaves. If Park really tears it up in the second half of the season or if Campbell shows enough promise this might never happen anyway. But at least we'd be rid of Chamakh and that at least would be pleasing.

Bosnian starlet Edin Visca claims Arsenal have expressed an interest in his services, but he is refusing to read too much into the reports.

The 21-year-old winger has spent less than six months in Turkey with Istanbul BB, but he could be on the move again during the winter transfer window.

He says Arsenal are monitoring his progress, with Arsene Wenger always on the lookout for players of considerable potential.

Visca falls into the category and he is flattered to be linked with such a prestigious club.

He would find it difficult to snub a switch to England should the opportunity arise, but for now his focus remains locked on catching the eye in Istanbul.

Proud
"I am very proud that such a big club is interested in me," Visca told KiP.

"Who wouldn't be happy about that?

"But the truth is, right now I am an Istanbul BB player and that means I cannot think too much about the Gunners.

"Until something concrete happens, I will only think about Istanbul BB as I want to play in Turkey and be as good as I can.

"But, yes, I am happy and proud that such a big club wants me."

He's left the Ivory Coast training camp in Dubai (or Paris, could be either tbh) for talks. Thought to be with us. £3m fee for an experienced if inconsistent wideman/forward ain't bad. He's on £75k/w but wants £90k/w, hence why Chelsea want to let him go. Guess he'd be a more reliable option to Arshavin/Chamakh etc but this would mean we're not signing Podolski. Also he's cup-tied in the CL and is at the ACoN so the immediate impact is minimal. Also, he's pretty much identical to Gervinho but a slightly better finisher and worse dribbler.

We need to make a move for somebody of note soon, before we are completely forgotten as a viable club for the top players. Maybe we have another year before it's, "Arsenal who?" We also need 4th place or the whole slide into anonymity will be accelerated. Failure to sign the players we need this month and in summer will cost us in many ways. The board will have figured this out, of course. I suppose they are more interested in the ongoing discussions about plastering players' shirts with extra logos and fucking up the TV coverage by superimposing advertising on the pitch.

Is Podolski a certain starter for Germany in the Euros? What position? I think he wouldn't want to come here right now because he knows he'd be shifted out wide and get less goals...which would then make him a less viable choice to play upfront for Germany. And he's a big name - His club know they'll get good interest in the summer. They might miss out on a few million (if we were prepared to pay over the odds right now...) but maybe having him scoring nearly a goal a game for another 5 months is worth that marginal loss in transfer fee. Plus Podolski would get a better choice of clubs.

Have a feeling Wenger is looking to fill numbers temporarily. Agree that Arshavin tried really hard, probably for the first time this season and i think he will be the first option in left wing. Having said that saw him tiring soon as usual, which means we would require another head there. Ryo looks set on a loan move, Yossi can play there though. Another reason for bringing back a legend is the buzz and positivity that it generates around the dressing room and with fans.

It's going to be like the Szczesny situation all over again on the wings. Everyone wants Oxlade to be given a run in the team, and now there's a chance with Gervais going to the ACoN, Wenger will go with Arshavin. Arshavin obviously has ability and even worked hard last night but I don't trust him to deliver when we need him to. And he hasn't delivered even when we don't need him to. That is not to say that I trust Oxlade to save us but he has a better chance than Arshavin because he's more dynamic and also has great ability. I don't think Arshavin can be 'fixed' now - he is a depressed, nihilist philosopher trapped in a meerkat/footballer's body. He sees little point in going the extra yard because it means nothing to him. Oxlade is young and so probably still naive. We must try him.

Agreed, did nothing at Villa and I think Henry is enough of the 'comeback buzz' the fans can handle. . .signing another legend could even see more raised eyebrows than smiles. . .another excuse for the bloody thirsty lynch mob to find a tree to string Wenger up by. . .

The agent of Koln striker Lukas Podolski has insisted that his client is comfortable with his current situation, but refused to rule out the possibility of a move to AC Milan.

Representative Kon Schramm recently declared his client would not leave his hometown club in January. However, the player has not yet committed his long-term future to Koln, having declined to discuss a potential contract extension before the summer.

"Milan? We don’t comment on these rumours," Scramm exclusively told Goal.com. "There are a bunch of rumours on him, every day there are calls from Italy, from England and even from Russia.

"The real truth is that Lukas has a contract with Koln and he is comfortable there. At the moment this is how things are."

Podolski has scored 14 goals in 16 Bundesliga appearances this season, prompting interest from Milan and Arsenal, among others. The 26-year-old has a contract that will expire in 2013 and Koln have pledged to sell him before summer's end should he opt not to extend his stay.

I agrre with that, although I disagree with paying crazy money, I do think the club needs to release itself from the self imposed shackles that sees us take little or no risk when adding to the squad and by risk I mean finacial=quality risk rather than the risk some think we made with the guys we brought in last summer.

Jack is the player that could save us a packet in the CM department but thats when he is fit, now we seriously lack cover upfront and no matter how many miracles Henry performs from now to February the situation remains that RvP should not be who we soley rely on. . .wedge needs to be paid up for that kind of cover, and maybe a transfer record broken at the same time

As MO says the club needs to man up. . .whether we do or not remains to be seen

Yep totally agree. What irks me more than anything is that even with a fully fit squad we still need quality adding here & there yet our manager doesn't seem in any rush to add quality to the squad.

I cannot for the life of me understand why we've not bought a striker, if RVP get's injured we'll be well and truly screwed, the season will be over.

To rub the salt in the wounds, the rivals who we look down on are challenging for the title whilst we're just chugging along outside the top 4.

Someone please wake me up when the season is over. :faint:

IMO the only players who can improve us now are the ones that will probably cost a premium. We have a fairly good base to build from, we now just need an extra boost of quality here and there. It's about time the club started to reap the so called rewards the stadium brings financially and not be afraid to pay big bucks.

Oh I agree MO, but I honestly believe we're getting close to the stage now where we need to pay a premium for a couple of star players to keep up with our rivals.

I know this sounds like doom & gloom but if we lose RVP in the summer to Barca or whoever who's going to replace him? Chamakh?

Sky Sports understands Aston Villa and Arsenal are mulling over moves for Blackburn defender Scott Dann.
He was a target for both clubs in the summer prior to making the switch to Ewood Park from relegated Birmingham.
Alex McLeish (http://topics.skysports.com/Alex+McLeish/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif worked with the centre-back at St Andrew's and is still admirer so it is understood that he is now considering a January swoop.
Villa's defence is in need of strengthening with doubts over the futures of James Collins (http://topics.skysports.com/James+Collins/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif and Richard Dunne, (http://topics.skysports.com/Richard+Dunne/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif and it is believed they would be willing to offer Collins plus cash to Blackburn for Dann. (http://topics.skysports.com/Scott+Dann/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif
ConsiderArsenal (http://topics.skysports.com/arsenal/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif are also thought to be monitoring developments due to the injury crisis at Emirates Stadium and Arsene Wenger (http://topics.skysports.com/Arsene+Wenger/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif may decide to recruit reinforcements.
The Frenchman had doubts about Dann at the start of the season after a long lay-off but he has played regularly this season for Rovers.
It is understood that Blackburn would consider selling for the right offer but they do not want to lose Dann and Chris Samba, who has expressed a desire to leave.
If Rovers decide to sell Dann, they will be especially determined to keep Samba, and Steve Kean announced earlier on Thursday that two bids from an unnamed club had been rejected for the Congolese player.

Not a Jan transfer but probably another one that got away (mainly because we were only pretending to chase him). So many names linked with us but they always end up elsewhere, like Utd, Shitty, Chavs, Scousers and even the Y....ou know whos. Transfer windows are boring (assuming we aren't selling RvP and you never know, a cheeky sale and a nice little earner, it's been done before). Boring old transfer windows.

CHELSEA boss Andre Villas-Boas is plotting a summer swoop for highly-rated Lille playmaker Eden Hazard.
The Blues are weighing up a £25million bid for the Belgian international, who has scored seven goals in 19 league games this season.

However, Lille are likely to resist that approach as they value the 21-year-old nearer £33m.

Hazard is one of the most sought after players in Europe and is also being watched by Arsenal, Juventus, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

And in October, he revealed he is ready to quit the Ligue 1 outfit to move to one of Europe's big guns.

Hazard said: "I am ready to go to the next level at a big club.

"I won't leave in January. It would be silly to do so but it's my last season at Lille.

"I stayed with Lille this year because I still had things to work on and prove but now I'm ready.

"I feel able to play in another country."

wen Coyle says Gary Cahill's representatives remain locked in talks with Chelsea, meaning he could figure for Bolton against Manchester United on Saturday.

A deal to take the England international to Stamford Bridge is edging closer, with the Blues having agreed a fee with the Trotters.

It was anticipated that a move would be pushed through this week, but the clock is ticking on Chelsea's effort to have everything put in place by the weekend.

With personal terms proving to be something of a stumbling block, there is a chance that Cahill will line up for Bolton in their meeting with North West rivals United at Old Trafford.

"Dialogue continues between Gary's agent and Chelsea," said Coyle.

"We accept it has probably been long-drawn. It is over two weeks ago that we agreed a fee.

"But sometimes that is the nature of football business. It can take that period of time.

"Gary is a Bolton player and until I hear something different in terms of negotiations being concluded between both parties, he will be in line to play against Manchester United."

Speculation
It has been suggested rival suitors have made their interest in Cahill known, however, this is news to Coyle, who insists Chelsea remain the only option for the 26-year-old at present.

"If other clubs are linked with him it is just speculation," added the Scot.

"We have agreed a fee with Chelsea. I have had no dialogue with any other club.

"We recognise it is the silly season but I don't deal in rumour. I only deal in fact.

"The fact is we have agreed a fee with Chelsea. We have not spoken to anyone else. That is where we are."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has indicated that he is seeking a full-back to reinforce his squad during the January transfer window.
The Premier League club have been hit with injuries to their full-backs, with Bacary Sagna, (http://topics.skysports.com/Bacary+Sagna/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif Carl Jenkinson, Kieran Gibbs (http://topics.skysports.com/Kieran+Gibbs/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif and Andre Santos all all currently unavailable.
Thomas Vermaelen (http://topics.skysports.com/Thomas+Vermaelen/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif and Francis Coquelin have filled in at left-back recently but they have also sustained injuries.
Wenger is hopeful that in the next few weeks he will be able to call upon some of those players but does not rule out the possibility of signing a new defender this month.
"At the moment we are exploring potential situations we can take advantage of but there is nothing concrete," the Frenchman told Arsenal (http://topics.skysports.com/arsenal/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif Player.
"Hopefully the players will come back very quickly now. With Carl Jenkinson we had very good news on his scan and he is starting to practice again, we have Thomas Vermaelen who is the first to come back, Bacary Sagna is evolving well and Santos is doing well too. Let's hope they all come back quickly.
Player scouting"All over the world we have our eyes and we look for good [players].
"It is very simple in a situation like that. You might take a player who doesn't play at all somewhere, who is not necessarily fit quicker than a player who is injured. Or you take a young, potential player who has not made it somewhere.
"A player who plays anywhere in the world at the moment will not be available on loan, it doesn't exist. It can only be a guy who doesn't play or a promising player who has not yet made it completely who you could take advantage of.
"That is why it is not an easy situation. You have to consider that a guy who has not played for two months is not necessarily back quicker than Bacary Sagna or another player who is just coming back from injury."

Aly Cissokho (French pronunciation: [ali sis?ko], born 15 September 1987 in Blois) is a French football player of Senegalese descent who plays for English club Arsenal FC . He plays as a left back and has been described as a "sprightly left-back with good speed and stamina".

A medical is one step on from a rumour though. Are we giving up on Gibbs or is the Santos injury worse than is being reported? Or is this guy so mediocre he'll be content as third choice? Odd signing if we go for it.
