So Tony Adams it seems doesn’t rate Arteta highly, on one hand he wasn’t especially a great manager himself and that’s putting it mildly. On the other hand, the guy was captain for 14 years and this idea that leadership is fundamentally different now than it was in his day feels like bullshit to me.
He knows Odegaard isn’t a leader on the pitch, where as Rice is, despite what is taken as unreasonable criticism by myself that he’s not an 8….his work rate, the fact that games where he has been poor are few and far between and his body language and actions on the pitch show this. Odegaard might be a nice guy and might be a good guy to have around the dressing room, but we had Rob Holding as a mascot we don’t need another one
And to anyone who thinks in reverse ferreting on Rice, think again. I wouldn’t have signed him, he’s not quick or technical enough for me (even with the two worldy free kicks he scored) and he’s definitely not a quick enough at passing or enough of a dribbler to pull defenders out of position when a low block is being set up. The double pivot with Zubimendi should prove interesting, but I’m yet to be convinced that it will undo obdurate teams (though i would definitely play them both on Sunday)
