I was so bloody relieved. I could not have faced the same shit just a couple of months after the Europa League final.
I thought it was funny that they blew a two goal lead so late on, but to be honest I just thought “no wonder Chelsea beat them so easily”.

I still don’t think they are a great side, they’ve got some fantastic attacking talent but they can’t defend for shit and not just against us but against Villa they needed Donnarumna to bail them out

He knows Odegaard isn’t a leader on the pitch, where as Rice is, despite what is taken as unreasonable criticism by myself that he’s not an 8….his work rate, the fact that games where he has been poor are few and far between and his body language and actions on the pitch show this. Odegaard might be a nice guy and might be a good guy to have around the dressing room, but we had Rob Holding as a mascot we don’t need another one

And to anyone who thinks in reverse ferreting on Rice, think again. I wouldn’t have signed him, he’s not quick or technical enough for me (even with the two worldy free kicks he scored) and he’s definitely not a quick enough at passing or enough of a dribbler to pull defenders out of position when a low block is being set up. The double pivot with Zubimendi should prove interesting, but I’m yet to be convinced that it will undo obdurate teams (though i would definitely play them both on Sunday)
Rice is pretty much the de facto captain and I don’t think anyone would disagree that he is a born leader. Can’t remember the last time we had a player as universally liked than him. Think he’s nailed as the next England captain too.

The problem really is that why would you risk creating unnecessary problems by taking the armband off Odegaard? I have been hugely disappointed with his performances over the past year but it’s hardly worthy of being stripped. Rice will still be the man he is with or without the captaincy so I don’t see an issue here.

Adams does have a track record of talking a load of waffle though. Probably why his managerial career never got going. These comments from him are unnecessary, talk about where we’ve got wrong tactically but there’s no need to dig out individuals.

I’d argue that Odegaard is hiding behind the captaincy and if he wasn’t captain (and we weren’t so pauce in that position) he’d have been dropped. So I’d argue that he absolutely deserves to be stripped of the captaincy and told that he can no longer rely on being an automatic starter, and if he can’t handle that “there’s the door”. We can’t carry passengers anymore and if that creates problems in the dressing room, all the camaraderie that’s spoken about is built on a house of sand and spoken about for PR purposes

Odegaard for me is an exemplar of how once you get into Arteta’s good graces you become undroppable. He is captain, he shouldn’t even need to be told that his performances the last year have been totally unacceptable, as a professional he should understand that being stripped of the captaincy is no one’s fault but his own.

Definitely grounds to drop him but I think taking the captaincy off him is unnecessary for now at least. We’ll see how he gets on this season, I’ll probably agree with you wholeheartedly if he has another stinker like last year.

This will sound terribly sexist but what’s the point, what’s the point of putting yourself through a high intensity laborious lifestyle and getting paid all that money if that’s what you’re going to settle for.

I hear all this she’s his childhood sweetheart and all that stuff, but there are two perks from being a footballer a) driving ridiculously expensive cars and b) getting to fuck the calibre of girl that being a non footballer would never afford you the luxury of.

Agreed re Odegard. If we are going to regard the captaincy as so important (I don't) then in terms of captaincy (not form) we've done fine with Odegard having the armband, and the choice of captain is not the reason we have fallen short 3 seasons running. Taking it off him now will just puncture his confidence further.

No he’s definitely not the reason we’ve fallen short

But his performances fell well below (way below) what we should be expecting to see from a regular first team starter. It was frankly embarassing watching him at times, poor I can understand….cowardly I can’t nor excuse

Winners wouldn't have a problem with stripping the Captaincy from someone who doesn't deserve it.
The real question is - does Arteta have the balls to be a winner?

Odegaard has actually been quite cowardly at times, not what you want from your Captain.
