To be honest if this is the first sign of a serious and ruthless clearout then it's the right move. The next 3 months are going to drag like hell so we might as well start prep for next season now.
I've never seen someone play himself out of the adulation the fans gave him quite like Arshavin did. A productive player on his day but those days became few and far between, he's not the type of player to inspire and that was his downfall. Plenty of talent but the character wasn't there.

We weaken ourselves with this move. Regardless of how people feel on about him, we're now a man short and he's a natural playmaker.
