I was watching the World Athletics Chamionships yesterday and a guy was disqualified in the 100m final for a false start - I do think that's such an incredibly harsh punishment, surely they should give someone just one more chance? All that training and effort just blown away
and what about the fans from their country watching on or who had travelled to the games (of which there were some in the crowd), it's robbing them too
OK he was an outsider and very unlikely to win, but still it feels outrageous to me
Is it literally one strike you're out these days?
The athletics not really on my radar but I did see this on the BBC. Shame.

Yeah it's been in place for a while tbh but as I say I still think it's unbelievably harsh, it's like a player being sent off for kicking off before the ref blows the whistle (although knowing the PGMOL it's only a matter of time before they send one of our players off for doing just that)
I think Bolt fell foul of that rule when he was at his peak and hte only reason anyone had turned up was to watch him.
Correct. I remember that well, and I felt a bit cheated - would have been much worse for the crowd.
I did actually get tickets to the 100m final when the World Championships were in London - at the Olympic stadium. This was nearer the end of Bolt's career. We did see him but he didn't win.
Think he got bronze and drugs cheat Gaitlin won - much to the crowd's disapproval.
