Arsenal vs Southampton Carling Cup Tue 23rd Sep 19.45

We normally do get past the first match in the league cup but we've got a tough opponent this year. Southampton are playing well (despite the exodus) and don't need to worry about resting players as much as we do.

Unless Wenger is prepared to play Hayden at CB it will probably mean one of Per or Kos being forced to play.

    Anyway, probable lineup:

    Ospina

    Bellerin
    Chambers
    Kosicenly
    Monreal (Gibbs if he's injured)

    Flamini
    Santi
    Rosicky

    Podolski
    Campbell
    Sanogo

I hope Wenger has in mind which 11 players he wants to start the NLD and then play none of them in this. But because we're so short in defence, I'm guessing it we'll have something like the team you picked. Wenger played Podolski in the no.9 role today after he took Welbeck off. If that's the case, Sanogo (who has a hamstring injury I think) won't play. Maybe Jack plays.

Little bit chance of a classic Wenger punt on a youngster. Crowley?

Will be exciting to watch full debuts for Campbell and Ospina.

If Diaby survived 90 mins recently, he may get a chance to be injured in this.

Campbell hatrick, lose 3-4. Campbell sold in Jan in p/ex for Reid from wurst spam.

I'd like to see the carling cup used to test out youngsters rather than keep busy the squad players. Or have we loaned them all out?

    Sounds like Diaby will start.

I'm going to this so I feel privileged to witness an event some say is rarer than a solar eclipse.

No a start isn't that rare, now a full 90 mins and a hatrick....

    Diaby

I really hope he manages to stay injury free. He's far better than both Flamini and Arteta, but he is one long term injury away from being disposed of. Then again, Wenget could keep him here till he retires
