No, we didn't play assuming we'd get a draw.

We played like Jeremy Beadle on a mandolin.

I feel sorry for him, to be honest. A 29 year old Everton player. I mean, you can get by in the league alright, but in the CL proper? It was never likely to end well. He was even in the SPL for fuck's sake.

It is underinvestment which has hurt us here. Don't just mean replacing Fabregas like-for-like. We really needed better players than Walcott, Gerv and Arshavin.

Sorry chaps but what really did you expect. we as a club have been in decline for years and the team is barely treading water. We have a manager who thinks he is s physics professor in lab. We only know one trick and we try it again and again and again ad nauseum. Something has to give.

Tonight merely showed what we have known for a long time. The champions league might be bloated, but eventually it will find a team out for what it is. We are in decline - and things will get worse before they get better, I fear.

Wenger: "It wouldn't be fair for me to blame the pitch, even if it was disastrous. Our performance was the same level as the pitch"

I knew he'd throw something in there about the pitch...but at least he was honest that we were utter shit. Right up there with the 8-2 at Old Trafford.

Players just aren't good enough and that's what happens when you go bargain shopping....
