Exactly, people on this board were excited that he was going to fill the void left by Cesc and that was going to be this creative force. But then when they realised he was an extremely limited player, they moved the goalposts and told us that he was "keeping things ticking over" and was meant to be the defensive midfielder (even though he's never done this role in his career)

In the other thread GP said that Song isn't supposed to be the defensive midfielder because that's Arteta's role. But if that's the case, we're lacking in the creativity stakes because Song, although a good player, cannot play the attacking role.

And just to confuse matters even further, for the second goal, Arteta let his man run unmarked into the box. He was the deepest midfield player of the three but in MOTD, Shearer asked 'where was Alex Song'. The confusion over whose doing what allows Arteta to get away with a lot. He's neither a creator or defensive rock. Song is still seen as the main enforcer to protect the back four and when things go wrong, he'll get pointed out.

Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila has hinted that he would welcome the chance to work with Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

The France international is one of several players that Goal.com revealed the Gunners to be targeting this summer – and his current boss, Frederic Antonetti, had already conceded this month that the 21-year-old is likely to leave Rennes at the end of the season.

European giants Real Madrid and Inter are also believed to be interested and M’Vila told Canal+: “Inter, Arsenal, Real ... I will take the fun everywhere!

    “These are great clubs.

“If the coach calls you and tells you he wants you to make you play, especially a French coach, it changes everything.”

M’Vila has been at Rennes for all of his senior career to date and is expected to be part of Laurent Blanc’s France squad for Euro 2012 this summer. The defensive midfielder was keen to emphasise that any move would have to have the best interests of his international career in mind.

“The important thing for me is getting playing time for the France team,” he stressed.

The 21-year-old was asked specifically about a suggestion that Madrid boss Jose Mourinho had personally sounded him out about a move, a rumour that he jovially denied.

“Mourinho calling me? he does not even have my number,” joked the France international.

“But play at Real? Yeah, it would be an absolute blast!

“It would be great to play with Kaka and [Karim] Benzema.”

M’Vila currently has three years left on his contract with the Ligue 1 club, for whom he has made 36 appearances so far this season.

Inter Milan have stepped up their interest in Arsenal target Stephane Mbia.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Inter have watched the defensive midfielder on his last two outings for Marseille.
The French side are on the verge of exiting the Champions League after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in their first-leg clash last week and Mbia could now add to their woes by agreeing to a summer switch.
The Cameroon international has scored just once this season from his deep-lying role but has impressed enough to get a number of teams across Europe interested in his services.

Arsenal and Fulham face a major fight to secure the signature of prolific Turkish star Burak Yilmaz after Trabzonspor revealed they have no intention of selling him during the summer.

Yilmaz, 26, is rated one of the hottest properties in Turkey after scoring 31 goals in just 28 appearances this season.
Both Arsene Wenger and Martin Jol have been linked with a move for the Turkey international.
The imminent signing of Lukas Podolski shows Wenger is looking to bolster his forward line, while Jol has also said he is aware of Yilmaz and his goalscoring record.
But Trabzonspor president Sadri Sener is adamant the club will do everything to keep him and they will not consider any sizeable offers at the end of the season.
Sener, speaking on Turkish TV, said: "We are not negotiating his transfer to any club. He is our player and will not leave here."

PSG poised to test Newcastle's resolve with bid for strike ace
Talk about Ba again......now I know that it may never be for 7mil but if the price wasn't too high, would this guy be worth a pop......I mean when we consider our back up options......Chamakh came on against QPR!!!! it would be a good bit of business.

One guy who left a comment mentioned Ba's knee problems but the guy seems to be doing fine this term (slightly off the boil recently) - Cisse is not bad either, Barcodes scouts in the right place by the looks of it - Arsenal's not = Park
