the board sacked dalglish because he wasn't good enough to take you into the top 4, and quite frankly he wasn't. but i dont think martinez is either; people say he got wigan to play decent football but 2 months of success does not undo years of sewage. this has been the only season martinez showed some tactical ingenuity; in previous years wigan stayed up due to goal difference, a lucky deflected goal or pure luck. it had nothing to do with wigan playing well or deserving it. this was the first year martinez employed some tactics to get wigan out of the relegation zone and it worked (against us, man utd, toon etc), but once again, i dont think thats good enough. you've got to look at the bigger picture and you should be going for a top class manager who has a proven track record. someone who can handle the pressure at a top club. taking someone from a relegation based club is a massive risk and he'll need time, i dont think the kop will give it him. if you dont get a win in the first 3 games next season there will be underwhelming pressure on him and the kop will turn, everyone knows that. it's too much of a big step; he should go villa, west brom, fulham, a team like that which is one step higher than wigan but not quite top 4 driven. it'll give him some experience before he takes on a big club. taking him straight from wigan is a massive risk and i dont think it'll pay off.
