I'm pretty happy with Arteta - we saw just how effective and important he was to the team when he was out injured. It is incredible how some people here have struggled to understand this.
Look at our record with Arteta in the line up - there was no need whatsoever for Parker.
I can think of at least 16 league goals we conceded when he wasn't in the team (for whatever reason) and that's just from four games. We were clearly better when he was playing, I don't think that can even be up for debate.
People won't notice what he contributes defensively more readily because he doesn't run about like an idiot a la Brave Scotty Parker.
Arteta has three things to his game which makes him effective when sitting deep. Work rate, positional awareness and aggression. But that doesn't make him a defensive midfielder. It's the same as when Song was being used as a defender for us and started to gain some respect on these boards. You can have certain attributes to fill in but it shouldn't be your full time position.
We need a defensive midfielder that has these qualties along with strength and a bit more pace. I remember a game last season against Sunderland where Sessegnon bounced Arteta off his shoulder and then out paced him to rush towards goal. I think he set the goal up. That's why we need a proper defensive midfield player. Plus, I want to see what Arteta has to offer playing further up field. We have no creative outlet from the middle this season and it would be good if he could provide the assists and bang in some goals.
Our first look at this Ganso dudeArsenal boss Arsene Wenger will send his scouts to watch Brazilian midfielder Ganso, 22, in their London 2012 warm-up game with Team GB on Friday.

However, Arsenal have lined up Spanish striker Fernando Llorente, 27, if Van Persie fails to sign a new deal with the club.

Would have taken Parker at the beginning of last year when things were looking very suss, he would not have stopped us being shower raped at Old Trafford but he would have shown a bit more fight. I daid I would have taken him and was disappointed when he became a spud.
But even though we did fuck around still in defence, I thought the team played the season more as a unit and I believe gave us something to build on. Yes that argument has been heard before and the RvP affair is going to disrupt things a tadge but those not seeing Artetas contribution are blind both in attack/sefence and OK lateral movement the guy does his bit.
I dont see him as a DM and if Song isnt too (?) then we need to invest in one. . .I am not wanking over Dempsey because he is this years Parker, I am having a little rummage because I believe he could be the new Arteta.
