I can see where you're coming from (despite me actually watching Tsonga - Belluci as I type this..), but athletics is extremely high-profile and distinctly non-amateur these days too. You wouldn't omit that from the Olympics, even though it itself now has a highly prestigious World Championship..

In fact each country can only compete in the Games at all as long as they appear in the cricket..... 204-team knockout, open draw

I would like to see football with none of this age-restriction crap, but FIFA would never wear that.

Agree that equestrian should be dropped.
Squash is a good shout although it never looks very good on TV.

I suppose so. Tennis as it is there is more of an argument for. At least it's not airy fairy and all the top players are there. It could be the fact we're coming straight off Wimbledon back onto grass that it grates a bit. But even without that I couldn't see myself getting into it. Shit like archery and the long jump are just more olympicsy and maverick. The current football format is rubbish...but even if it was less rubbish I'd say people would just prefer a break from it anyway.

Perhaps so. But then, it's not as if in today's multi-channel world you'd have to watch it.. But anyway, will never happen with FIFA being FIFA.

Gun-to-my-head, I wouldn't have tennis and football there at all. But as they are, then as the old saying goes, 'shit or get off the pot'

I can't see the point in Olympic sports where there's always such a well established schedule in it.
I suppose there is with Athletics but the Olympics is still the most prestigious. With football players would far rather win the World Cup, with tennis players would far rather win Wimbledon or another grand slam.
It is a bit random how they pick the sports which are Olympic ones but I don't think we should add ones which are already so well established.
