I don't generally like the idea of a 'keeper as captain but Chesney seems to 'get' what playing for Arsenal is about and has a real connection with the fans in a way that lamentably few players do these days.

The 21-year-old described the club as 'his second home' in an interview with the Polish media this week, but refused to rule out following a lengthy list of former Gunners' stars in joining the Spanish giants, saying: 'I can't declare that I will spend my entire career here, but if I leave I will have a very important reason or I will go to Barcelona.'

Szczesny continued by adding any decision to quit Arsenal would not be money orientated, adding: 'I can't imagine a situation where I would leave this club just for money.'
