It fits in with the narrative of English defending being above that sort of foreign nonsense. If you go man-to-man with many people moving about in the box, it would cause just as much havoc. And what happens if someone makes a run in to the box you can't account for?

I personally think man to man works much better as the best and most dangerous players are up against the better defenders, you shouldn't really get the mismatches you can see in zonal marking.
