Maybe they should just do their jobs better?ANGRY referees are threatening to boycott Chelsea matches.
Fed-up officials have already held talks about not taking charge of Blues games — and even discussed all-out strike action.
Ex-Premier League ref Clive Wilkes says the men in the middle are disgusted by Chelsea’s pursuit of Mark Clattenburg for allegedly using “inappropriate language” to John Obi Mikel last Sunday — a claim the official denies.
And they feel let down by FA chiefs and the PFA in the race-row saga.
Wilkes said: “I keep in touch with a lot of the lads and there is such a strength of feeling about what is happening to Mark.
“I know a few referees who are even talking about boycotting Chelsea games because of all this.
“Remember, it’s not the first time Chelsea have targeted a referee — there’s been Anders Frisk and Graham Poll.
“And some refs are now saying enough is enough.”
Wilkes, 57, from Gloucester, added: “It’s no exaggeration to say the refs in this country have never felt lower.
“They are so disillusioned. They feel vulnerable, feel that they are being left isolated — that they are getting no backing, no support.
“They want to speak out themselves but are too frightened, they fear they will be sacked if they go public with their grievances.
“There have even been murmurings about strike action but that’s very much the last resort.
“They’d much prefer to get around the table with the FA, PFA, the clubs and players to sort this out as quickly as possible.”
Swedish ref Frisk was forced into retirement when he received death threats after he sent off Didier Drogba at Barcelona in 2005 and Poll had a run in with John Terry a year later.
In 2010, Scottish referees went on strike in protest at their treatment, forcing chiefs north of the border to bring in officials from abroad to prevent games being called off.
Kevin Friend, 41, is in charge of Chelsea’s match at Swansea today.

Some people will never believe it but, after the Mark Clattenburg row, Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo was full of praise for official Kevin Friend.
Despite seeing his side knocked off the top at Swansea, RDM said: “The officials were very good. Kevin kept the players calm and he let the game flow. He didn’t have any influence on the game or the result and I congratulated him on his performance at the end.
“I didn’t speak to my players before the game because our team is usually very good.
“We are generally a fair team. There has to be something really out of the ordinary for them to react.”
Di Matteo’s admiration was in stark contrast to the criticism he dished out to Clattenburg after losing to Manchester United last Sunday.
The ref sent off two Blues stars and allowed an offside winner before he was reported by the club to the FA for using ‘inappropriate language’ to John Obi Mikel.
Di Matteo refused to blame the race row for his team’s poor showing yesterday after Pablo Hernandez’s late leveller for Swansea.
RDM admitted: “It’s been a tough week after two games against United and it would have been nice to finish it off with a 1-0 win.
“It’s a bit of a concern that my players are starting to feel a bit jaded already.”
Swans boss Michael Laudrup said: “When Chelsea get 1-0 in front they usually stay in front. But we got closer and closer to an equaliser — and I never gave up believing it would come.”
