    ...Q: Well, for example, £25million and £200,000 a week?
IG: "Of course we could do that. We could do more than that. We have a certain amount which we've held in reserve. We also have new revenue streams coming on board and all of these things mean we can do some things which would excite you. What excites Arsene isn't necessarily what excites you. We can think about all kinds of things. The important thing for us as a club, and it may frustrate everybody but we don't think about what's going to excite our fans for the next couple of weeks, we think about what's going to excite them when we start playing in August and hopefully when we're in March and April and competing. That's what we're focusing on. For Arsene, it's a question of getting the right players, the ones he believes in, not necessarily the players the fans want. He's very disciplined about his beliefs and how he wants to structure a team. And he's done a fantastic job at that over a long period. He has new tools available to him financially and I think he'll make good use of them...."
He did a pretty decent job of being the poilitical mouthpiece of the club, but this particular question/answer was where he gave the clearest hint yet that he's just spouting the usual rhetoric and it will likely be the same shit come next season.

The part in bold is remiscent to the fat hog PHW's usual derision of fans. A big fuck off you pesky peasants trying to tell us how to run the club.

it's complete garbage. the usual sales patter about what can be done in the future and the possibilities now. but it counts for nothing until someone puts their hand in the register and uses it. gazidis has contradicted wenger on a few occasions at previous agm's telling everyone there is money to good spend but we've seen nothing.

tom fox is the cco who played a big part doing these deals and part of gazidis remit as a ceo is to make sure the employees under him are making the most of the resources available - if that is their aim at all.

It's not the usual. He's making it clear that there is money to spend and that we don't have some inflexible wage structure in place that's holding us back. He's also making it clear that he's not going to start telling Wenger how to run the team or the best way to get results. That's fair enough in my book.

It's food for thought because I'm tired of the constant excuses about Wenger's hands being tied or forced to sell his players.

he's told us there is money there before - what's new?

of course he'll separate the line between the team and the board because it can take the heat off them 'look we've done all we can guv'. i could tell you a million bullshit lines about how amazing the things are in my life - the yacht, the mansion etc but why in the hell should you take my word for it?

i'm sick of rhetoric. they need to do something, in real terms, or fuck off.

Indeed, actions speak louder than words. But it's not as if we haven't spent money before. We've just spent foolishly. Look at the amount of players we've bought recently. Yes, we've sold but we've bought and bought badly.

I said last year that there seemed to be excuse after excuse. First the stadium debt and then the lack of sponsoship money. If you check his past comments, that would always crop up. This time it's pretty clear. We don't have to worry about the debt and teh sponsorship money has come in.

As said by others, they are all empty words until we actuallly start spending on proven quality.

I did like some of the questions though, summarised many of the fans issues and questions regarding the current squad/policies/general direction of club. May at least give IG some food for thought.

I think in admitting that we can now finally sign a player like Rooney and pay the fee and wages is proof that he hasnt provided the money until now

A certain amount of money has always been there, obviously not enough to buy the likes of Wazza but then no one was seriously demanding or expecting worldie signings like that over the past 5 years. The problem is that what he has had available to him has more often than not been wasted because his eye for talent has become somewhat blurred.

Wenget's decline is as much to do with his stubborn and inflexible approach to managing the squad as it is with not having the ability to buy whoever he wants.
