Hard to compare with today because footballers are much more about marketing than football now. So Ronaldo would be bigger by a long way, in terms of shirt sales, sunglasses sales, Vaseline sales. But as a landmark moment for Arsenal I doubt the signing of Bergkamp will ever be topped.
