Ray Parlour insists Arsenal would not be taking a massive risk in signing Wayne Rooney and claims a move to the Emirates Stadium could boost the striker’s career.
Tony Adams has warned Arsene Wenger against making a bid for the Manchester United star, as he believes the temperamental 27-year-old would struggle to handle life in London.
But Parlour does not share his former team-mate’s concerns and wants Wenger to press ahead with a move for the England international, whose future at Old Trafford is uncertain.
“Wayne Rooney is a quality player and he is at that sort of age where he should have matured now,” the ex-Gunners midfielder told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
“When you are young, you do things you shouldn’t have done. You just have to learn from it. I certainly did that.
“He might need a change from Manchester United. He is a fantastic player so, if there is anybody of that calibre on the market, I'm sure Arsenal must be looking for him.
“That’s where they have struggled since [Robin] van Persie left. [Olivier] Giroud did OK last season, but they definitely need more firepower.
“It might be a new challenge for him. He can go to Arsenal and become a hero if he goes there and bang in 25 goals. And I promise you they will create lots of chances for Wayne Rooney.”
