Valencia are sticking to their €30million (£26.4million) price tag on in-demand winger Juan Mata, according to reports in Spain.

The Spain international is a reported target for Chelsea, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger having ruled his club out of the running at the weekend.

Tottenham expressed an interest earlier in the summer, but their pursuit has since cooled due to the excessive asking price.

And Madrid-based sports newspaper Marca claims Valencia rebuffed an offer from Chelsea totalling €25million (£21.9million) this week.

The Blues, the report suggests, are preparing to order Fernando Torres to convince his international team-mate of the merits of a move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are building a great team. If they get Mata and Modric it's between them and City for the title IMO.

To be fair, once Nasri goes, there will be no shadow of a doubt that Spurs have a better side than us. Whether they add anyone to increase that disparity is another matter. We have history and a bastardised version of a once great style of play on our side. We'll be lucky to get 4th as it is.

Nah, there's definitely a shadow of doubt. Our team minus Nasri and their current team is pretty close but I say we edge it. They'd likely overtake us if they get Whore and Diarra though.

Certainly as it stands the two teams have never been closer in terms of quality.

I think once Nasri goes we have very little star quality - Wilshere, Van Persie (when fit), Arshavin (when thin) and that's about it. They have Bale, Van de Vaert, Modric. The rest of their team is solid enough and they have hundreds of them on their first team. So to me, more quality and more quantity. You can be more circumspect and go for the 'closer than ever' approach and that's pretty reasonable. However, I just think they've surpassed us already, more by us taking two steps back than them taking two steps forward.
