I don't see why you removed the bit about whether he's a winner or not, it was a direct answer to his questions. It makes no sense.

I don't see Wenger as a winner because how can you be considered one when you've failed to pick up any trophies in the last 8 years (that's a long time in football), we've also become totally uncompetitive.

Yes I think we should be doing a lot better, our performances in all competitions is fairly average, we got knocked out of the cups fairly and we're always out the CL in the last 16 these days as well.

We have money, we can buy a better quality of player, we choose not to. We should be able to upset some of these sides in the CL from time to time, the fact everyone knows we're getting knocked out before the tie is even played says a lot really.

You can only have 11 players on the pitch at the same time and we should be able to put together a team that can take on anyone, our results against the top sides last season was pretty woeful.

In the CL we've lost to pretty big sides over the last few years, I don't think we've lost to any sides we really should be beating.
The domestic cups vary from year to year, last year both exits were disgraceful though.

You can only have 11 players on the pitch but the other sides can buy better players (yes, we should be buying some better players but we could never assemble a squad like City can) and they can have players sitting on the bench who are beyond our reach.

In terms of the league I think 4th is about par for us although we should be closer to the top. In one off games in cups...well, over the last 8 years we should have picked up a few so yes we and Wenger have failed there but it's not as easy as it used to be. It was brilliant that Wigan won it this year but City damn near bought the thing again and 5 of the previous 6 winners have been billionaire-fuelled clubs.

Wenger has failed to compete as well as he might have in the current climate but sometimes you make it sound as if you think any idiot could.
Fergie managed it but his record is pretty unique.

Football isn't as simple as that, just look at the cup winners last season. It's the fact we pretty never even get remotely close to a shock against the bigger sides. It's not just about quality either, it's heart, desire and a lack of a winners attitude...we know all about that as 15 years ago we had inferior sides who may not have had the talent but had this never say die winner's attitude which gave some top sides a real surprise.

That's true however we have money, can buy better players and certainly should be capable of producing a shock or two against the top sides.

4th in the league has to be looked at in terms of just how far we are from the top, both in terms of points and quality, in my eyes we're nowhere near, we're never close enough to threaten and we end up miles behind the champions almost every season. The cups well yes we've been dreadful IMO, defeats to Bradford and Blackburn in one season, really?

A top manager would certainly make a better fist of it, we pretty much get the same thing every season and never compete for anything but 4th, do you honestly enjoy this, wouldn't you like the prospect of a trip to Wembley or the joy of going on a cup run and beating a few decent sides on the way?

We nearly beat Birmingham in the League Cup Final a couple of years ago

    *sigh*
I agree with a lot of your post to be fair. If Wenger was as incompetent as you make out we wouldn't be anywhere near the top 4 but he could be doing better if he wasn't so damned stubborn.

In the league, we are finishing in line with resources available to us, but we could perform even better if we made full and better use of those resources. Manchester United have made great use of what is available to them - that is why they regularly compete with and win against Chelsea and City. We aren't doing especially well with our resources, consequently, we are only just managing to outperform the Spuds.

In the Champions League - we are again par at best. We always get out of our Group, but get knocked out every year as soon as we play a team of any quality - so a par rating is if anything, generous.

In the Domestic Cups - we are performing seriously below par and any explanation of that rating hardly requires description. The Club really don't seem to care about this and I think the reason is because there is very little money to be made from the domestic cup competitions. If the winners of either competition got £30m, the approach would be very different.

Our Club now agressively seeks financial reward over glory and on field competition, and it appears we are exceptionally good at that. Perhaps in the short term we are, but without glory and competitiveness we are losing out on a generation of fans and that will affect even our ability to generate financial rewards in the future. By then I suspect the pigs at the trough will all be gone only to be replaced by new swine the current pigs sucker into purchasing our brand.
