You're right it's but we can spot a pattern, we've dithered in the transfer market when we could have had a large part of our business done and dusted. The excuses have begun to come out about the few players and price being high, this is just like the waiting period all over again.
Everyone else will sign the available quality players and we'll be left scratching around for anyone we can get in and end up wasting money on players who aren't good enough and who will struggle to shift, either that or we'll sign one player and be done with it.
It's totally ridiculous a club can be run like this and it's totally ridiculous that a manager at a club is happy about it as well.
Our transfer target list is usually made up of one difficult to obtain player who is either unavailable, too expensive or just isn't interested in signing for us. We spend 2 1/2 months getting nowhere then sit around looking at each other wondering what we should do next when we eventually realise this sole target isn't coming.
There should be some serious questions being asked right now, not at the end of August when the CL deadline arrives.
Securing Suarez would be a breakthrough for us. Besides smashing our transfer record, we'd have actually taken a player off a club that was reluctant to sell. It would be a massive step. Side stepping the controversy, I can understand why he'd seem like a realistic big name signing for us. Prem experience, hasn't played CL football and there aren't many clubs bidding. But I also fear we've purposely hung our hat in hard to reach place. If shit fail, we get the old 'we tried' excuse.
We should still be looking for other positions regardless of the outcome of the strikers.
The squad we have is good enough for our stated target of 4th. Odds are that Pool will still be crap. Our Voodoo hex on the Spuds is still valid till 2020 I think, especially now that Benteke who could have pushed then on is staying at Villa and Adebayor will still be missing sitters left right and center. We were never going to challenge the top 3 anyway, not with u know who still as manager. Nothing to worry about really. Best to forget this coming season and wind forward to 2014. Maybe then things will change, if Wenger gets a contract extension however, we should change the name of this board to "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here".
But we'd be missing a massive opportunity to grab the title this year. So many teams are in transition. If Jose gets enough time with Chelsea, things will get a lot harder for us.
I wish I could be optimistic but seeing how we are perennially crap against the other top4 teams and our no tactics leader can't win crunch games, no matter who they are against, Birmingham, Bradford or Bayern. It seems futile
People forget that we've cleared out a lot of "deadwood. Combine that with only having 1 fit center half and one true center forward, we're significantly weaker now than at any point over the last 2 years.
Granted, wenger will probably sign a bunch of dross to make up the numbers and then will finish 4th.but right this minute we have 19 senior players compared to 25 for our rivals
"@Orbinho: Higuain v Suarez last two seasons: Goals 38-34, Mins/goal 91-162, Conversion 38%- 14%, Assists 12-8, Mins/assist 288-689. Mins 3451-5511"
"@Orbinho: Chance conversion 2012-13 Podolski 33%, Walcott 23%, Sturridge 19%, Cazorla 16%, Suarez 16%, Giroud 13%"
"@Orbinho: I am just highlighting the fact that if you spend £40m on a main striker, you'd expect them to score better than one in six chances."
