Well yeah I suppose that is true, although, I don't quite think of Higuain in the same way. Good though he is and could have played the role we presumably have in mind for Suarez fairly well, I don't think he's as good. Either way though, if we don't offer the right money, you can't get the player.

Staying in the realms of fantasy for a minute - watching the transfers that are happening all around us, if we had a scouting network and a workable strategy, we could have already spent that £50m+ and had good quality players - and there would have been a buzz about the place right now. That is what we needed - rather than blowing £50m+ buying a player who isn't even as good as the player we sold for £24m a year ago.

Suaerez isn't right for us and we arent right for him.

It's relative though, £50 million now would be like the idea of us spending £25 million before the previous TV deal and all the other ways we're bringing money in . It could be very well the case that Suarez does not work out for us, like for any player but the message it sends out I think is an important one, if we ever truly want to break away from this (previously) comfortable space of doing the bare minimum (fourth).

What's the point of spending 20/25 million max on a player? It won't bring in the quality we need. Which strikers are going at that rate this summer that are top quality? None. All more then that price so you want us to spend 25 million max on a player who won't massively improve us.

You can’t say £25m isn’t enough to find true quality. You’re not a scout and if you only follow the Premier League, then your scope is limited even further. We should have scouts out there that know these things. Every year a team pops up with some bargain of the summer signing that’s off the radar. Our scouts used to unearth these sort of players all the time.
