That, essentially is what I want. It should have been our strategy all along.

As it happens, there has been no strategy - if there had have been, we would have ended up with at least two players and a little bit of business to finish before the end of the window.

Had we even just maintained the quality we had in the squad two seasons ago, the signing of Suarez would have been great (pretending for a second that it was ever going to happen).

Arsenal are close to landing their second signing of the summer with 19-year-old defender Matthias Ginter on the verge of a £6m move from Bundesliga side Frieburg.

Liverpool and Arsenal are both interested in signing 17-year-old MK Dons midfielder Dele Alli. Both clubs may offer to loan the player back for the remainder of the season.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has accused Arsenal of lacking class in their attempts to trigger a release clause in the contract of 26-year-old striker Luis Suarez. The Uruguay international was the only member of Liverpool's first-team squad not to attend a gala dinner after captain Steven Gerrard's testimonial against Olympiakos on Saturday.

Atletico Nacional midfielder Sebastian Perez, 20, will begin a trial with Arsenal on Monday.

But the Gunners' attempts to bring in United Arab Emirates play-maker Omar Abdulrahman have suffered a set-back with his current club, Al Ain, refusing to release the 21-year-old for a trial in London.

LOL, not a single player on that list who will make a blind bit of difference in the coming season.

EDIT: Including Suarez who won't be and never was joining us.

    project youth it is then.
though i do think getting a young CB in makes sense - any decent CB in their prime is not going to want to sit on the bench as 4th choice all season, whereas a youngster will accept it.

can someone explain to me what is so terrible about bidding £40m + £1 if we believe his release clause to be £40m? would these same people have a problem if we bid £41m? why do you want to light £1m on fire for no reason?

It's taking the piss. Its classless.

Offer 40.1m but when have you ever seen a club offer a pound?

We have more class than that or at least I thought we did

how the fuck can u agree on us lacking class!? Liverpool are the stupid cunts lacking class, they keep talking in the media about the deal, seriously every single day we have some new liverpool scum bad mouthing us for no reason other that we have bid for their striker. Stuff like that should stay between the clubs until they can agree a deal or not and then part ways, Arsenal havent done anything wrong, they bid the clause who apperently was 40mil and 1 pound, thats liverpool lacking class not us, their lawyers hustled luis suarez and should have just made the clause 40mil or 41mil.

The £1 was utterly ridiculous coming from a club that is already viewed as the biggest penny pinchers in the history of everything in the whole world ever. The arseholes that run our club are clueless and don't even have the good grace to die. But true enough, listening to Rodgers whinge on every day is boring at best.

I'm not sure Brendan Rodgers can talk about class when he did this to his old club weeks after leaving.

Wrong, the supposed clause (which we now know didn't exist) was any bid over £40 million, we're the ones that bid the extra £1, thus it was a ridiculous bid, as Cripps said usually a club will bid 40.1 million or something like that.

It was classless but not unexpected given that people like Kroenke and Gazidis only understand the financial 'bottom line' and nothing else.
