To be fair to Wenger, Jenkinson looks solid at RB (even if we have to move Sagna to LB) so if we sign someone like Cahill he'll see us as having Sagna, Vermaelen, Traore and Gibbs for the position.
Our fullbacks have been fine this season, most of their chances came from the unstable midfield and the CBs not being settled (Djourou constantly losing his marker).
If we got a beast of a striker reckon we could up goals from set pieces and crosses too cos Jenkinson's crossing is top notch.

In his interview last night he did insinuate we're good enough even if we don't sign anyone.
He didn't guarantee we would a sign anyone, he said we will try.

I rather think the fact that he's only just come back from injury had a big part in it as well, although Jenko/Sagna is probably better defensively for an away game; I thought Traore looked pretty solid in pre-season and with Sagna proving competent there and Vermaelen as an option, I can see why we're not investing there.
I'd still like Baines though.
jenko has done well so far but we cant expect him to carry the burden all season. Sagna also has done well at LB but we cant rely on gibbs at all imo, and traore either so we do essentially need a 1st team LB IMO
Wenger's deluded if he thinks we should read so much into last night's performance. We could see defensively we still need reinforcements, because although the fullbacks looked good, Djourou was extremely uncomfortable and was responsible for losing Di Natale for their goal. At the moment, I only trust Vermaelen out of all our central defenders, and we can't go into the season with only one reliable centre half.
Last night Di Natale gave us all sorts of problems in the 1st half, we just couldn't keep him quiet he was getting free outside the box, free in the box and could have got a hattrick.
Gotta say the marking was poor considering he was such a danger. We need a quality CB for sure.
We could have done worse than snap him up to be honest, he's almost 34 (which is the only downside), but he was very impressive.
