I had a season ticket for over 20 years. It did used to be a big part of my life. Now it isn’t.
Few reasons for that, dad and me used to go to games, it was our thing. As his dementia started to bite it got to the point where he wasn’t able to go so that was a factor. But also getting married, just generally getting older and the expense.
I can understand people for who it’s a big part of their lives but the clubs have certainly played on the fact that they know the fans can’t just go to the shop down the road, so to speak. The only option for fans is to withdraw their custom and while some did do that for a bit at the end of Wenger’s time, too many fans have kept on funding the clubs as the whole sport has slowly lost its soul and become a business rather than a sport.
It’s a shame, it’s not the sport I grew up with.
