He was getting more game time because of the injury to Jota, before that he was rightly seen as behind in the pecking order

Also because of said injury he was starting more games where as we’ve seen that Arteta has in the last few months rotated more so that sometimes Martinelli started and sometimes Trossard started

And when you look both in terms of starts and from the bench both have had about the same game time this season.

But far be it from me to pour cold water on another of your fantastical narratives. So yes he’s definitely out performed him this season

Tbh, their goals/minutes stats aren't that different. Gakpo edges it but there's not a huge gulf

Exactly, and the point is that despite this we are meant to believe Martinelli is a flop yet conversely Gakpo has been this exceptional player that we should have signed. I think Martinelli has underperformed for a while (and additionally he has not been helped both with short term injuries and the way we play which is to channel all our attacks down the right). Gakpo I’ve used the word average, as to mean nothing special and I stand by that.

Nice attempt at diverting the argument, but it doesn't matter why he was or wasn't starting games, the fact that he now is and scoring regulalry undermines your saying he's not a good player, this attempt to make it about Gakpo v Martinelli is s red herring

Your average winger, even just at PL-level average, doesn't score a goal every other game

    Sorry

No it’s not at all. The argument we had at the beginning of the season was a comparison between our attackers and theirs. And whatever way you try and frame it they have scored a similar amount of goals in a similar game time and our opinion of Martinelli is that he’s underperforming. Your only counter argument is six in 12 as if somehow Gakpo hadn’t had any game time in the games before the previous 12…he wasn’t always starting but he has featured either from the bench or from the start in every Liverpool game this season so it’s not unfair at all for me to say they’ve both scored six this season

I would say Gakpo is overrated but you’re probably the only person I know of who rates him that highly to begin with. He’s an ok player nothing more. Ramsey did a run of six goals in twelve games and he was a shit player.

ofc it is - one can legitimately say Martinelli has scored 6 all season whereas since Gakpo became a regular starter he has averaegd a goal every other game - it's apples and oranges.

The first part of that clearly shows why the second part is nonsense

So we agree that you’re going to dismiss that they’ve scored the same amount of goals over the season having played the same amount of game time because it doesn’t suit your narrative? Cool.

Ramsey was shit, he had a terrible first touch, he’d pass to the opposition under no pressure, he was slow, technically limited and if not for his goal scoring run….he’d be about as well remembered at this club as Elneny or Denilson

Yes, because one has scored sporadically over a longer period and the other has clearly been on an upward trajectory, scoring a goal every other game over the last 12 games
