We hadn’t - still haven’t, embarrassingly - wrapped up CL qualification mathematically. But we were far enough ahead that it’s still pretty unlikely we won’t qualify despite the poor run. It’s getting closer than it should be, admittedly.
Point being I get why, given the above and that the title had long since stopped being realistic, and given the fact we were in a Champions League semifinal, a bit of loss of focus in the league.

We were more of a cup team then - we weren't good enough to compete in every league game. Adams notes this in his autobiography.
Expectations are higher now, people are less willing to accept us focusing on the cups. But context is important here. We weren't in the title race - because there wasn't one this season. So I get why there may have been one eye on the CL games. I'm still finding the continued slump annoying and worrying. If we go out on Wednesday then we really need to sort our shit out and finish strongly. It won't be much comfort but it's better than nothing.
