Come on, he's a sublime footballer. That record is about as relevant as Henry in cup finals. Rooney has mostly performed on every big stage, from a CL final V Barca to international tournaments. He is woefully past it now though.
In terms of England stars in the last 20 years for England NT I'd go:
1. Rooney
2. Gerrard
3. Terry
4. Cashley
5. Beckham
6. Lampard
A top 6 eh?
You fuckin rebel.
NOTE: The location of this post has been moved and the thread title (which was previously Wenger is Leaving) has been manipulated by a notorious pro-Wenger moderator. What was previously a message that contained no profanity and made a comment on a real life event has now been manipulated by a deliberately provocative title. An old and crude propaganda and censorship technique.
i forgot becks, and didn't want to give Lampard any extra credit.
His record is presented in response to all the fawning over his easy and uninspiring passage to the top of the scoring charts. When you get picked by default just because you sign for Utd and they roll you out in 101 meaningless friendlies, and the Soviet Union splinters into football cannon fodder of course you will rack up the caps and the goals. He's supposed to have been England's genuine world star for over a decade. Is he fuck. Surely one of the most over-rated and overpaid media footballers in living memory. And a cunt of a bloke to boot. A cheat and a tosser who has always placed the cash above the football. Yes he'll steal records from proper players on the basis he was pre-printed onto every team sheet, big deal. Nobody will be talking about Rooney in the same breath as Charlton or Best, not even at Man Utd.

Everyone fills their boots against crap opposition. There's no way you can argue Rooney not scoring against top international opposition is a lack of ability. Anyone who has seen him play objectively can see he has it all. As I say, he has lost it in the last couple of years though. Sad seeing the player he is now - burnt out by 28. At least our prodigious cripples Ox and Wilshere shouldn't suffer from that.
Like I said, 2011-12 was the last time he had a decent match and that was coming back after a couple of crap seasons. He's been shit ever since, so why is he still being capped for England? Engraving the shithead's name on the teamsheet is what has him approaching the record, no achievement there but his presence is a massive anchor for the rest of the team. Someday the FA will hire a manager with the balls to kick out the media darlings and bring in players who can do a job.
