Only at Arsenal would you see a world class keeper turned to shit on his PL debut like today, you honestly couldn't make it up, it's actually quite funny.

He'll have to get used to playing behind a defence that leaves acres of space and doesn't bother closing down. He'll feel gutted about today's performance, I have no doubt about that. And he'll be up to make amends next time out, something like this won't kill his confidence. In the meantime, I hope he starts banging heads in that back four. Yes he was at fault, but look at how easy the striker got in for the first goal, and why did he even have to worry about saving the second when there should have been no danger? He can't carry all of this himself, the defence was shit and if you were watching carefully they were shit during the pre-season too. Especially the full backs. That fucking think they do where they leave the flanks completely unguarded and then rush across full pelt when the ball inevitable arrives in the space. Years of doing that shit, years of being caught out. It's not even zonal defending, it's remote defending, better late than never defending, please wait, I'll be there in just a minute defending.

Cech will have to get used to all of that, just like the keepers before him had to suffer it. Hopefully he's got a big enough voice to encourage somebody at the club to pay attention to the problems that have been plaguing us for years.

Look where our defenders are in relation to the main threat. It appalling. No wonder Cech felt he had to come for it. Bet he's never been exposed like that in chavland. If he hadn't come for it, then what?

Cech was terrible today but thats not the problem. The problem is, why cant a team filled with Ramsey, Ozil, Santi, Ox and Walcott not be able to create anything fruitful for majority of the game. The loss is not the problem... the manner of the loss is.
Arsene Wenger, the only football manager that got paid 8 million quid to do nothing but sit on his arse..

IIRC the commentators in the community shield were saying something similar about our defending on set pieces.

Luckily Cesc was dogshit with his set pieces that day, as they were all slow and easy to defend against, but they highlighted how it is a problem area.

I agree, that Cech is at fault for that and the second, but the system is flawed too

Oh I agree NQ, to be honest I don't know what the defence were thinking yesterday, they have been very solid throughout pre-season and pretty much for the entire 2nd half of last season. I am putting down yesterday's disaster as a "mentality" issue which in itself is extremely worrying. I geniunely believe the players, all of them..thought it was just a case of turning up yesterday.

I agree, the attitude was wrong from the start. The problem with this set of players and the manager is that even though they can talk a good game, they dont have the right mentality and approach to be champions. Losing your first game of the season against a mediocre West ham (they have added 2 really good players in Ogbona and Payet though) is simply unacceptable, and is worrying that these kind of results can occur at any given moment.

Aye, let's just hope Wenger comes down hard on them and doesn't let them work it out for themselves.

The most important thing we do now is go on a run and I mean a winning run as we are already playing catch up so to speak.

I don't think yesterday was a one-off though, this team still has a slight jekyl and hyde mentality and I don't fully trust them against anybody.

I agree. He's not blameless but it's not the clanger some are making it out to be.

I blame Ox for the 2nd as well. It's criminal to give the ball away like that on the edge of your own box.
NOTE: The location of this post has been moved and the thread title (which was previously Wenger is Leaving) has been manipulated by a notorious pro-Wenger moderator. What was previously a message that contained no profanity and made a comment on a real life event has now been manipulated by a deliberately provocative title. An old and crude propaganda and censorship technique.
