I don't agree. I think Barnes' stuff is valid. I'm not Uruguayan so I have to take people's word for it - and I see no evidence to think otherwise - that Suarez has used a term 'nigreto' that is NOT the equivalent in England of calling someone a nigger. Now he knows that people are likely to take it the wrong way, if he uses the term again, then he will have no excuse. When I went to Germany, I sometimes used expressions or words that I did not know were considered rude or wrong in Germany. Once I knew, I stopped using them, but I would not expect to be condemned for my ignorance of German culture at the beginning.

John Barnes played football when black people were subject to continous high levels of abuse on the pitch that we don't see now. I think if anyone is in a position to comment, he is. When If John Terry is found guilty of having used racist language, something as an Englishman he would know full well was wrong, I'd be interested to see what Barnes says about that.

Man, that whole thing is embarrassing. They try to rig an online poll (which is meaningless anyway) and then cry when other people rig it or they don't get their way.
