The rest of it, talent-wise, has been more than capable of winning trophies, leagues etc.
I agreed with the approach of developing youth.
Wenger gave us Cesc ffs. And RVP. And countless other talented players....and that is over the last few years.
People going "I told you so" are talking, in he most part, out of their arses, as the teams we have had, have been very good teams, lacking in a few areas, for which Wenger and the board, are ultimately responsible for. I.e. Buying when we needed a boost, and sorting out tactics (especially in defence), when they needed to be sorted out, rather than trusting to chance.
The back end of last season, going into this current one, is the issue. Because we lost Fabregas and Nasri. Before we lost them, we needed to replace Denilson, Bender and a few others with more quality. But we took further steps backwards in the quality department, and lost those players too. I don't necessarily like Ceac of Nasri....as the game they play isn't one I like in terms of English football...but they were good players, nonetheless.
Santos, Merts, Arteta and Gervinho. Together with AOC, are all decent signings. They gave us some balance, and for a bit this season, we have looked much better. More of a team.
But the constant errors of judgement by our manager, the refusal to spend, and the inability of the whole of AFC to look any further ahead than their own wallets is biting hard. It's soul destroying.
But; The last five years? "I told you so?"
Fuck off.
