Barcelona director of football Andoni Zubizarreta has rejected reports linking David Villa with a move away from Camp Nou in January.

Villa has been linked with a possible move to England with Arsenal thought to be keen on signing the Spanish international.

Villa, who missed six months of last season with a broken leg, has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Barca side since his return from injury fuelling talk of a move away when the transfer window reopens next month.

Zubizarreta insists they have no plans to offload Villa and that he remains a key part of their plans.

"In January we will keep Villa and it is important to remember that Barcelona is a club that habitually does not accept offers for star players in Janaury," Zubizarreta told Canal Plus.

"David is a player that brings goals and intensity to the team.

"Now he has recovered from a serious injury I believe that he is offering a good level on the field.

"It is normal that big players desire to play and this is perfect for the competition in the squad."

    On to the next one.
"I really like Arsenal. Do you really like Arsenal, or only Arsenal with trophies?" - Dennis Bergkamp.
"Which Arsenal do they want back, the one Arsene created?" - Tony Adams.

4 of the 5 know they wont get it any better than this. If they leave us, itll be too go to clubs such as WBA, Stoke etc. Hence they signed

Wilshere knows no team is going to touch him atm til he proves he can play week in and out and we stupidly give him 80k a week for doing f all. He'd be an idiot not to sign

Not that it says much but more than a player who only has 1 full season under his belt, at least.

Arshavin to Reading in a £4m deal apparently

Hes far better than Reading but good luck to him. Wenger killed him, an extremely talented player. Hope this is a lesson to all players thinking of coming to Arsenal

You guys are embarrassing. The nature of football contracts are that you don't get paid after your service. If you sign a 4 year contract, you get paid for what you are likely to do in the next 4 years. Of course looking backwards helps you to form that picture, but only to an extent. As for Wilshere having done nothing - that's just stupid. He has been excellent almost every time he has been on the pitch - bringing the kind of assurance and quality you can only get from special players.

I can't believe we are even trying to compare the players. Wilshere is different class. Jack is going to be - if he isn't already - the main man in the team for the next 5 years holding him to an 80k contract is a massive bargain. I think Theo is a very effective player and I desperately hope we hold on to him but knocking the contract offer to Wilshere is a attention-seeking crap and anyone with any sense knows this.

Agreed. Jack is a class act and should he avoid injuries, he'll be our main man soon.

Walcott could have inked his deal already. I personally think he thinks too much of his ability. He and Jack are not of the same ilk and it would be wise of him to get a grip of this reality asap.

From 2008-2009 onwards (when Theo first became a regular starter) he's had 118 starts and contributed to 78 goals (through scoring and assisting) in that time. That's an assist or goal in every 1 and half matches. Pretty efficient tbh. I'm not saying Theo's a world-beater (or that he'll ever become world class) but given the relative lack of quality in our squad these days, we shouldn't be so indifferent about Theo leaving, acting as if it doesn't matter. He's one of the most productive players in our squad and losing him would be a serious blow. Perhaps 6 years ago, it wouldn't have mattered so much, but we're hardly blessed with an abundance of talent which makes it all the more imperative we keep our best players.

What, you hope that players learn a lesson and don't come to Arsenal?

Put some thought into it man - that post is an embarrassment to you and this board.

This thread and board have gone a bit stupid.

I really hope we sign a big name this window to bring a bit of excitement and hope to the club. I think the last exciting signing was Arshavin but look how that turned out.

I really wish we could go out and buy a van Persie
