That's it for the day then. Umpiring![]()
hindsight is a wonderful ting, but i think clarke should have declared a lot earlier in the fist innings IMO. batted slightly to long, and england haven't exactly performed brilliantly with the bat first innings. could have taken a bigger risk and i reckon if they had, they might be in a very strong winning posistion atm
Yep. When you're in a situation where you know you will HAVE to declare though, that is arguably the worst one of all. Natural temptation is to think that 'you might just need a few more runs to be safe yet'.. If he'd declared with a lead of 250 odd, Clarke would have got pelters if England had made it. And rightly or wrongly, he is no position to do that with Australia not paying heed to anybody who isn't Border II
are you talking about declaring now in the second innings or the first?
my point was about the first. england havnt performed well in the first innings all summer, so going for a lead of 500 odd was a bit greedy imo. if he had declared at about 450, hed have more time to bowl at england and force a result. they batted until after tea on day 2. with the weather forecast, allowing yourself two days to bowl england out twice, and potentially bat again as well was a tad optimistic. hindsight is a wonderful thing but just got to wonder
Bad light stopped play?
Seriously?
Wtf?
They know the forecast isn't good tomorrow yet they go off for something as insignificant as that? Turn the bloody lights on then.
The lights were on.
Having said that, it didn't take long for the rain to come down anyway.
even with the lights on at the end, it still was too dark apparently, or at least wasnt above the light meter level that was required.
however, it rained about 20 minutes afterwards so although it was bit of a farce, the end result would still be the same
Looks as though there will be play from about 2-3 pm. One mega session.
Although having looked at BBC's forecast rather than Bob's, it's a lot more depressing.
