Cheerio Chakma.
Cheerio Chakma.
Finally some good news, shame its only on loan.
Probably does confirm we'll be bringing in another striker tbf.
I'd laugh if he starts scoring reguarly there.
I THINK his contract expires in summer...
Good luck to him
No way this is going to happenArsenal have made a formal approach for David Villa as they prepare a second bid for Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez, Goal.com can reveal.
The Londoners remain in talks with Atletico to sign Adrian after tabling an opening offer of around £10 million, which was revealed by Goal.com earlier this week.
But Arsenal will not push through the deal for Adrian until they are definitively told by Barcelona that Villa is not available for a transfer this month.
Arsene Wenger is a long-time admirer of Villa, who turned 31 last month, and is prepared to pay up to £13.8m to sign him on a permanent deal and match his current £110,000-a-week wages.
Goal.com understands that Wenger has learned that Spain’s all-time leading goalscorer is keen to join Arsenal and make what would be a sensational move to Emirates Stadium after growing frustrated with his lack of opportunities at Camp Nou.
But Barcelona are playing hardball and remain reluctant to off-load such a valuable asset ahead of a twin assault on the Champions League and La Liga titles. The Catalan club have rejected the possibility of Villa going out on loan until the end of the season.
Arsenal are prepared to bide their time even though they have made bolstering their strikeforce a top priority in the window.
Wenger wants to sign a mobile, orthodox centre-forward this month who can play anywhere across his forward line and dovetail with his current first-choice spearheads Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud.
Arsenal will only sign one senior frontman this month and Wenger’s sights are now firmly set on either Villa or fellow Spain international Adrian.
It is understood that a fee of £12m could be enough to push through the Adrian deal, which is lower than the £14.7m release clause in the forward's contract.
Goal.com understands that Arsenal opened negotiations with Atletico to sign the 24-year-old before Christmas. As revealed by Goal.com in October, Arsene Wenger has been closely pursuing Adrian, as he is known in his homeland, for months after failing to sign him last summer.
Villa’s potential availability has prompted a slight change of approach but it is uncertain whether Barca will come to the negotiating table.
No chance at all of us getting Villa, 14M for a player with no resale value? Lols.
Adrian has 4 goals in 18 starts this season in a weak as fuck league, stay clear.
The King Is Back.
No thanksSouthampton starlet Matt Targett is being tracked by Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, Goal.com understands.
The 17-year-old left-back is regarded as one of the jewels of the Saints academy and the long-term successor to Luke Shaw, whose own future is the subject of intense speculation.
Shaw has been consistently impressive in the Premier League this season, and boss Nigel Adkins felt compelled to warn off potential suitors before he again caught the eye in Tuesday’s goalless draw with the Gunners.
But Targett, too, has been attracting the attention of some of the country’s biggest clubs with a string of promising displays for Southampton reserves in the Under-21 Premier League.
While only two months younger than Shaw, Targett would be available at a considerably lower price, due to his lesser profile and the fact he has yet to sign professional terms with the Saints.
Under the new rules laid down by the Premier League’s Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP), players under the age of 18 on youth contracts can be transferred for a fixed fee determined by the player’s length of service in the selling club’s academy.
Consequently, despite Targett having been with the Saints – his boyhood club – since the age of eight, any transfer fee would be only a fraction of the £9 million received for fellow youth graduate Theo Walcott, or the £12m Arsenal paid for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in August 2011.
Southampton's academy enjoys Category One status – the highest possible rating – under the new system, but this has no bearing on the fees they are entitled to receive for their youth products.
David Villa would be an excellent buy but there's no way we'd invest that much in a short term fix.
