Or stop selling £30mill+ players even though that would go against everything the club now stands for. Point being, this lot are looking to bank cash, not splash it. Judge them by their actions, not their bullshit PR circus. I agree, more average players will make zero difference except in terms of having bodies to put on the pitch when the next injury crisis hits. But that's a fan's perspective, if you look at what the club has been doing (selling off the talent and replacing with inferior players but still achieving CL qualification) they will say the policies have been highly successful. This is the fundamental problem. They buy exactly the right players to achieve their ambitions and their ambitions bear no resemblance to those of the fans.

£24mill for Van Perjury was pure daylight robbery though.

Generally you get what you pay for but of course there are sometimes big flops.

Aguero for £30m or RVP for £24m seem like bargains.
Utd will make a LOT of money from the £24mill invested in RvP - it's one of the most incredible pieces of business ever conducted in the PL as RvP is clearly the best player in the league by quite a distance and will deliver at least the PL title for Utd this year (when they might well have struggled to overcome city). RvP even at 29 is worth a hell of a lot more that £24mill plus his wages when you think of the extra income, publicity, prestige, ability to attract talent, ability to retain talent, it's a long list. Plus we did all the hard work getting the guy fit again so they will probably get another 2-3 quality years and 1 even 2 fringe years out of him. It's an amazing deal for them and the worst piece of business in Arsenal's history, far worse than the Stapleton transfer.

Veron was quality, tbf, but was hard done by a league which was yet to subscribe to his style of play. Would have fitted perfectly in a Wenger system, imo.

    Shevchenko
How much did that Aquilani guy cost?
Torres to the chavs - £50mill

But the number is small compared to the string of flops we have seen arriving at Arsenal over the last few years. Flops, I think, not because all of them are poor but because the team in general is poor, unbalanced, unmotivated, etc, etc.

I don't think a 30-40 mill player would make much of a difference for us because we have so many weaknesses in so many areas. Sure, a big signing up top might get the goals to secure 4th spot, but I think most of us are bored viewing that as success.

He was a bit of a cowardly shit on the pitch, not ideal for the PL.

Cold, hard facts right there. Signaled the end of our big club status and firmly rooted us as a feeder type club. One where talents are honed and developed for the lone purpose of being sold for profit to one of the big clubs.

Nail on head. Look at the amount of players we've spent years developing and then sold for big bucks when they're approaching their prime and then look and the number of players we've bought for big bucks when they're approaching their prime. Answer to question one: lots. Answer to question two: zero.

If we were a proper football club with ambition we'd have spent RVP's £24m on another £24m striker so at least we'd give ourselves a fighting chance. We ended up buying Giroud for £12m.

Same goes for Cesc, Nasri, Adebayor, Clichy etc etc.

It's blatant asset stripping and is being supported by the mugs who pay to go and watch Arsenal every week. Arsenal FC is not a football club, it is a cash machine for the owner.

I disagree with this a bit because big bucks up front is the big difference between us and the competition. Yes Fergie is a much better manager than Wenger but I think Utd would struggle without RVP.

Quality in the final third is what separates the top teams (Manure/City) from the average teams (Arsenal).

Put Aguero and RVP up front for us and we'd challenge for trophies even with our buffoon of a manager.
