Most transfers aren't paid in "one big chunk", the vast majority are paid in instalments over a number of years. I think the most common is half now, half in a year, but it can be across a much longer period. Not to mention whenever performance bonuses are involved. The only times they aren't are when the likes of City or Madrid are involved, or like the Torres-Carroll debacle.

If I am not mistaken, we did not get the 35million from Cesc transfer in one big chunk - it will be paid out over a series of seasons (with Barca's prize money), we also didn't get the 15million for Alex song in one big chunk - in fact I don't think we've ever got paid in one big chunk - except by Man City! Which brings me to the point - Barca - are not financially secure (but will they be investigated, prob not) yet, we allow them to do deals like this with us. They probably have a good 25-30million outstanding in what they owe to us and yet they can turn around and say 'no' we are not selling Villa to you - because they are under no pressure to wipe out their debt. Who will dare to touch them? Platini? Blatter? they are barca fans.

They should hand Villa over on a plate the amount of times they've screwed us and unsettled our players. But no. I honestly think they are scum.
Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. It's business. I'll say one thing though, if Villa wants to come here which seems to be the case (as in it's widely reported) and we are offering an amount Barca see as acceptable, but they are refusing to sell him out of spite, we should put a ban on transfer between the 2 clubs. Seriously if I was Arsene I'd refuse to deal with them. They'll come knocking again for a player one day soon and we should refuse to sell the player to them irrespective of the situation.

dont want to tip you into suicide but van persie's deal is also being paid through instalments. heard its £12m up front and the rest dependent on trophies etc.

Getting paid in one lump sum is not the norm.
Which is fair enough - but when it's a player like Cesc - should we accept being paid over 5 years? When he will bring them instant success? I pretty sure we could be a little more heavy-handed in the transfer market.

    Agreed.

I'm not condoning our conduct in the market at all.

Mancini was speaking last night in the aftermath of their draw, when asked, said he didn't think they would sign anyone.

And why should they? If any side in this league does not need yet another quality forward, it's them.

Really??? 12m upfront and the rest depending on trophies??? How does that work? so if ManU fail to win anything they get RvP for 12mill? I dont think thats accurate, can anyone confirm this?

    No, it's extremely unlikely.

    based on trophies, appearances etc.

just like any normal transfer in modern football. its rare that all the money is paid up front nowadays.
