The few times that I have seen him play, IMHO, he looks a better defender than Verm and also Mertesecker! We conceded a lot of goals last season down to shit defending.

Is Vertonghen a talker? Is he an organizer? Will he make our holding mid play holding mid? Our problems defensively are deeper than just plugging in different personnel at centerback.

no i wouldn't agree with that. it's not at the invincible type of level but it's not exactly everton or sunderland either. it's pretty good but there are more than enough things to improve on.

It is now, mostly. But at one time it was the best that has ever been played - at least in my life time. Football goes in cycles, at least I hope it still does.

To be fair the players mentionwd as joining other clubs were either never realistic (Hazard) or not on the radar (Hulk) - Kagawa was and I think we missed out on that on but the other names we have been linked to are out there and there is no reason why say, after the Euros we can seriously make a go for the likes of Giourd (who on paper at least, has a decent club and international record) - Llorente. . .hmmmmm

The Euros is important for another reason, irs end will bring home RvP and the sticky issue of what to do with him. I believe a lot depends on him, I believe we have money and could spend it on whoever we want without getting rid of Robin first but his salary is key, what we choose to give him to stay with us, sets the benchmark for future incoming players. He will have to be our highest paid player and thus puts us out of the running for players who demand the amounts that Hazard was reportedly looking for.

I want to see the ambition too but I got a feeling that we could have to wait till nations start dropping out the Euros or/and RvP comed home
