I think he earns his money more than Fergie for what he does. That he should be doing all he does is a moo point. Wenger is more than a football manager at this Club.

He probably is being overpaid, but I doubt anyone would do the job he is is doing within the parameters he appears to be working under.

And on the subject of pay, we are overpaying the bulk of our squad. It is why we can't get shot of players like Bendtner despite the obvious international clamour for him.

If we paid the bulk of our squad wages in line with what similarly experienced players earned elsewhere, we'd have no problem being competitive in paying wages to Van Persie and a couple of other marquee players.

I think it depends how you look at it, from a football point of view he certainly doesn't.

As for being more than a football manager, well his job is to manage the team, the fact he gets involved in all sorts of things he shouldn't at the detriment of the playing side (IMO) is due to perhaps him being a bit of a control freak.

A football manager should be paid based on the performance of his team on the pitch IMO, he's paid on the basis that he makes a profit and that's what the board care about. He was far more successful before he got involved in the money side.

    Money 1 Football 0

You're stating what his job should be in your opinion as a fan.

I think there is more to his job than there ought to be and what I would like there to be.

He is doing his 'job' to the satisfaction of his bosses, this is nothing to do with being an uncontrollable control freak because for the money he is being paid, the Club could get just about anyone as Manager.

    Yet they stick with him.

I like the way this board has slowly changed over the past few years from (paraphrasing):

fuck Chelski and their blood money
    to

let us get in on that action!!!!!! Sack the board and instate Usamov!
I like the club running within its means.

Remember Citeh paid £24 million for a player IN THE LAST YEAR OF HIS CONTRACT last year. On top of that I have no idea what his wages are but I'm guessing 120k+ for a guy they already shelled out 24m on. Do you know how utterly absurd that would sound just a few years ago? I mean just think about it for a second. We haven't won anything for six, seven years? NO SHIT! People like Citeh are making the market fucking absurd and RVP would be insane to miss out of this once in a life time opportunity to cash in.

It's like someone buying every item in Tesco's for £1,000 so you're unable to buy any food. Sure, the missus is disappointed when you come back empty handed from the shop but do you really think its sensible to take a loan out to compete with this £1,000 for a can of baked beans price? Or worse allow some blood moneyed tycoon to take over your household so you can maybe eat caviar once or twice in half a decade? Added to that he'll probably sack your children every year to get "better ones" in.
Fuck that. I'll happily grow own, shop at Lidl's or even scavenge bins.

Peter Hill-Wood is the third generation of his family to chair the club. Everything from the 60's up until now has been chaired by a Hill-Wood. We have been self-sufficient for years and I'd rather eat bread and butter for two decades then desecrate all of this for a go on the fuck yourself over lottery to win a tub of caviar for a season.

There is running the Club within its means, and then there is bleeding the Club and its fans dry.

This Club is in no way making use of the resources available to it and a group of people have profited immensely as a result.

an interesting observation as to why wenger is overpaid comes from le grove in his article a few days ago:

    http://le-grove.co.uk/2012/07/07/tha...l-think-again/

im not for one moment saying there is any truth in it or that it's a good article, but it offers an interesting perspective as to what's potentially going on at the club. if the article is true then it certainly raises some interesting points for consideration, namely that the board have bought wengers silence.
