I don't watch that much football that does not involve Arsenal but I really enjoyed this. The technical level of both sides was exceptional and showed us what we need to aspire to. The confidence and excution of RM in particular playing in tiny spaces was amazing. Interesting how they defended against Citeh too. They dropped quite deep as opposed to pressing high, and counter-attacked. Waybe a useful blueprint for managers wanting to try to work out how to play Citeh? RM were also diving bastards, but should have had at least one pel IMO - maybe would have if there was VAR...

I'd prefer them to go through against Citeh.

The teams who’ve got results against City this season have done so with counter attacking. That’s where you can hurt them.

Unfortunately for us, our counter attack isn’t very good and that’s why we’ve struggled against them for years. Our counters tend to feature excessive passing which allows the opponent to drop back into shape by the time an opening is spotted.

Aye - pretty much. Hopefully with a top class striker in the mould of Haaland Arteta can follow his mentor in developing a Plan B in this regard.

The reason our counter attack isn’t very good, isn’t so much lacking for pace…it’s an inability to combat the high press. This is why we’ve been particularly vulnerable to city and Liverpool in recent years.

At our best we are able to counter press which allows us to attack opponents with pace and this is what we did when we played City on that New Year’s Day game where we shit the bed despite having them on the canvas

Our finishing has improved a damn sight since then but we have not been able to muster the same performance.

You need centre backs who are comfortable on the ball as well as midfielders who can play out under pressure.

And you also need for their attacking players to have a rum day in front of goal which is what happened the last time they lost a game back on February 5th

Feels like both sides defended reasonably well, just both goals were rockets

Holy hell the atmosphere is ridiculous. Almost makes me want to go to Milan.
