BBC reporter says we also want Schneiderlin. But Southampton seem to be asking for a ridiculous fee (Cheers, Liverpool).

Excellent signing.
All you need to know is that Southampton fans are on twitter raging because they say he's better than Shaw. Says it all really.
Debuchy for 3 years then Chambers steps in. Perfect.
BBC reporting 16 million as the fee.

Quite a lot of money and I reckon we could have got him for a lot lower before Southampton received the Lallana and Shaw money. However if he's the long term guy we've identified then I'm glad we've gone in decisively for him and got our man instead of reflecting back in two years when he's lighting it up at Chelsea after signing for £30 million.
Wonder if he is going to be the man to play CB or as a DM. Jenks time is definitely up![]()
Arsene Wenger, the only football manager that got paid 8 million quid to do nothing but sit on his arse..
Dont really know anything about him but it is a big fee for a young player so AW must see something in him. Getting worried about our lack of CBs. Looks like Verm will go (although I suspect it will be a transfer deadline deal) and that leaves us with Kos and Merts? Seems mental, especially coming off a world cup year.
Also, a DM is a must. I've read that AW fancies wilshere there which is bonkers. We are in desperate need of a physical presence in that position. I think Diaby should be treated as luxury given his injury record and we should not hold out on buying someone for that position because he is currently not injured.
Has there been any new info on that goalkeeper we were rumoured to be buying?

Ospina seems a done deal. Probably will confirm once we get back to the UK.
I think we'll pick up a DM, get rid of Flamini and possibly a few other kids (Coquelin, Hayden etc) and that'll be that. Don't think we'll sign a striker or a CB based on the fact that assuming Chambers and Ospina are done deals, that'll already be 5 new additions to the first team squad which is probably the maximum you can do without disrupting things too much. Just look at Spurs last year.
Think Wenger has said he normally doesn't go for more than 3 new first team players per window but I suspect his hands been forced this window what with the Sagna and Fabianski departures and increased fan/board pressure.
As for CB shortfall, we'll hopefully tell United to fuck off and force Vermelean to stay but instead of Wenger almost totally isolating him like last season, we rotate him into the team a lot more so as to give him a decent number of games. If we're lucky we could maybe perhaps convince him to sign a new contract.
If we're really crafty we could ask Mertesacker to return a week early as I think he's the type of person that wouldn't mind too much. I believe the FIFA/Union rules state that we need to give every player a minimum of a four week break but we could have him make out that he's having his holiday at London Colney.
