What manager would point toward ambition?

Well that is for the FA to decide, i've been clear that i think sacking Allardyce was an over the top reaction. He didn't engage in illegal activity he pointed out that the loopholes exist by being entrapped....yes he was both stupid and greedy to do it, but i think the FA took the opportunity to get rid of a man they never wanted in the first place in a giant arse covering exercise.

Allardyce was at least a willingness to try something different, people have in this thread cited how England players look upon their team mates as strangers and Allardyce is known for team bonding .....and this was a man who genuinely had passion for the job, wanted the job for so many years. It might not have worked but at least we were trying. Southgate seems to be an admission that mediocrity is all we can attain.

Well that's a cop out of an answer. What if the FA feel Southgate demonstrates enough ambition in his plan for the team? Surely that means he's met their criteria, which is what counts in your eyes.

Goes with the all white kit. That's not the England kit. We should have the old kit back.

If the FA didn't want Allerdyce, why appoint him in the first place? I agree about all of these fancy nancy kits, get the proper ones on!

I think after Woy they knew they had to go for something different, but the fact that he was dropped at the first sign of trouble suggests it wasn't a choice they had made enthusiastically.

A bit risky when they might have to pay a couple of mil to get rid of someone they appointed who they didn't want in the first place, and might get rid of!

It is a cop out, but it's no more of a cop out than appointing Southgate..... I'm not trying to claim it's an easy decision

The FA flirted with the idea of Wenger and didn't do much to dissuade the press from speculating on that, and if that's really the man they want why not just say to Wenger we know you are out of contract at the end of the season with Arsenal the job is yours next summer if you want it.

Would it work?....maybe not but actually at least trying it shows ambition.

Who then?...Eddie Howe?, Alan Pardew?, Sean Dyche?.....the point is why the rush to make an appointment. If they regard Southgate as a safe pair of hands why not have him until the end of the season and then use that time to think of a long term approach.

No i don't think Southgate would be a disaster, if we appoint him we will qualify for the World Cup and the pampered England stars will be happy.....and like i say if that's the extent of our ambition fine, i just think England has an obligation to aim higher.

a few million isn't exactly a big risk is it?

What i'm saying if they were that committed to Allardyce they would have made more effort to keep him, i don't think they foresaw having to get rid of him so soon.....but neither did they make much effort to avoid it.
