If Gervinho had been sharper or more decisive in the final third, we would have won the game. He destroyed so many attacks by one piece of stupidity. He was still a constant threat to their backline though. Podolski wasn't allowed to get into the game much because of his defensive work. Ramsey, Cazorla and Arteta were good for most of the game, but succumbed to sloppiness/tiredness in the second half.
Jenkinson just gets better every game. Defensively solid again, but going forward he was possibly our most dangerous player. Strong, quick, tireless and improving his all-round game every week. Brilliant. In any other game, Mertesacker would have been man of the match. He proved again today that intelligent reading of the game and anticipating danger early is far more important than being needlessly aggressive. Koscielny played his first match of the season, but looked as composed as he was last season. Apart from almost assisting Aguero, which can be forgiven today.
Matching and even out-playing a billion pound outfit on their own pitch without Szczesny, Sagna, Vermaelen, Wilshere and Rosicky and with players like Giroud, Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain playing little or no part, it's a promising start to the season.
