We did massively overpay for Xhaka because we are in a market where because of tv money, clubs outside of england are going to hold english clubs to ransom over their players.
You can correctly decry Wenger for his terrible approach in the transfer market and to football at Arsenal in general, but essentially we were lied to by Gazidis more than just because of Wenger but because that elite we were promised is not possible without one of the billionaires putting the money in (even if just as an investment)
