Just read on BBC about one the final torch bearers whose parents did make it to the ceremony because they had gone off on holiday. . . Sounds like he went home on gis todd after the whole thing

Because the modern Olympics were devised by a Frenchie and thus is one of the official Olympic languages. Doesn't really make sense but the French love their language to be spoken at big international events.
