The Champions League winners are going to offer LESS money for Fabregas than they bid a year ago, and though the Catalan giants will throw in young star Thiago Alcantara they want to have the option to bring him back.
Barca have confirmed their chase for old boy Fabregas is now on, but at well below Arsenal’s £54million asking price.
They only want to go to £28m plus £7m-rated Alcantara, which is short of the final offer - of £38m - they made last summer.
While the bizarre package would see gifted Spanish Under-20 hope Alcantara go to the Emirates, Barca are insisting a buy-back clause is included in the deal in case he is a success in the Premier League.
The proposal will both frustrate and amuse Gunners manager Arsene Wenger, who knows that Barcelona's annual pursuit of Fabregas will dog his summer spending plans.
Wenger would take Alcantara, but not at the expense of his captain and at such a low price.
Barca also expect to agree a fee with Villarreal for ex-Manchester United striker Guiseppe Rossi and are trying to close a deal for Udinese’s versatile Chile attacker Alexis Sanchez, but are under growing pressure from Manchester United.
