No, that season Liverpool effectively petitioned that season to be let back in as they were the holders, the rule at the time was that holders did not automatically qualify for the following season.

No in 2005, like Maccy said, the holders didn't automatically qualify Liverpool had to go through all the qualifying rounds starting in July playing against the pub teams of pub teams.
Also got the rules bent for Mascherano (or some pub teamer) to be eligible. Can't play on the 15th.
UEFA and FA always bend over for them.
