Özil has been sub-par for however long now in our shirt.
No need to draw up meaningless stats to try and prove otherwise.

My tag for him would be 'mediocre'. While you shouldn't judge a player by how much was paid for him - in this instance you can't help it - at least I can't. By that measure, he is a massive disappointment.
What is even worse though, is that we have seen, elsewhere, that his is capable of much more than mediocre and we just aren't getting it. By that measure too, he is a massive disappointment.
He is the perfect illustration of why this Club can't and won't be able to compete with the likes of City and Chelsea on a sustained basis. We blow £42m on a player, our opportunity cost is precisely £42m. City and admittedly now, to a lesser extent, Chelsea, don't need to worry about trifling measures such as opportunity cost. If they spend £42m and it doesn't work out, they just go and keep on spending £42m on a player until it does work out.
We will never be able to do it, which is why we need to be so much smarter with our resources. In this instance we have been incredibly stupid. We either picked the wrong player, or we are playing him wrong, which is yet another massive disappointment.
Like my face.

This Ozil situation gets dragged up so much because guys like you want to drag up stats and keep talking as if there isn't a problem and it just adds to the scrutiny.
Example, if anyone on here decided to drag up Ramsey's stats for this year and attempted to argue that he's performing anywhere close to how he was performing last season, I'd be right here disputing it and saying you're mad. But it's generally accepted that he's under-performing so we don't get such long drawn out debates on here.
We also don't get calls for Ramsey to be sold or accusations he's stealing a living. Regarding Ozil, it is generally accepted he's not performing to the levels he's capable of. But he's certainly not lazy and certainly doesn't stand out as a particularly poor performer when measured against the other players in the squad. That's the myth the media and some of the genuinely lazy fans run (or sort of trudge) with. Nothing wrong with fans observing he's not performing to the levels we have seen him display at other clubs, plenty wrong with them then leaping to easily disprovable conclusions. Even worse listening to some hoping one of our best players gets sold. But we know, a run of form from any player and he's the next best thing to the fair-weather fans, and vice versa. But it's generally accepted that he's under-performing so we don't get such long drawn out debates on here.

This following on from the fantasy musings of Rob 'the twat' Shitturd in the Daily Man Utd who exclusively revealed Ozil is off to Bayern, the gypos are after Messi and 101 other made up column stuffers. #stealingalivingThe German playmaker tweeted: 'Thanks for your support following my injury. I'll come back on the pitch soon as I can to help #AFC. Now and in the future #MiaSanArsenal.'

Unfortunately I don't think the arguments of his supposed lethargy or disinterest are at all necessary to convey a reasonable argument for him flattering to deceive.
I think his style of play makes him prone to such titles that we have long been opposed to on this Island, but again it is not a necessary angle and we certainly didn't pay the gold for his defensive capabilities. He does need to offer something of a return though and I suspect Wenger's reticence to dropping him has something to do with the fact he is patently aware he has been playing him out of position.
I know NQ doesn't like any praise of City players as do many others here, but I agree with AFC Lev's observation of Silva. When I watch him, he usually cuts the figure of a play maker who's powers I long to see over the Arsenal. He has a knack of finding space for himself (much like Ozil) but also constantly works angles to put his team mates through on goal too. He is incredibly difficult to subdue over a 90 minutes and because of it, nobody will give much thought to what he does when he is running back or how little defensive prowess he has. He is an Arsenal player really....and pretty much a more polished reliable version of what Rosicky once was.....though not as tenacious defending.
Kompany is an Arsenal player if I ever saw one and Wenger should have moved mountains to sign him years ago. Fantastic on the field ability wise, leads vocally as well as by example without having to racially abuse folk, shag team mates wives or spit in peoples faces.....and exemplary off the field. This is not just to wind up NQ either.
The pitchforks will be allayed a little whilst Nemo's out and we can all sharpen them for Wilshere and Ramsey once more and yell about how much we should sell the both before they lose all their milk teeth.

If they played for us I'd agree. As it it, they don't, so they are cunts. Cut and dried and pretty obvious.

The other players in the squad aren't rated as the world's best playmakers so saying he's doing no worse than the rest doesn't help. We bought him to lead the way, not to get lost in the crowd with average performances.
You admit and accept that he's not performing as should, so I don't get all the fuss. You don't recall some folks saying Wilshere should be sold? It wouldn't be far fetched for calls for Ramsey to be sold prior to last season either. That's what happens on here often and it's not as if people need to be lead by the media. What was your take on the Arshavin situation? Was he underperforming or were we all brainwashed by the media? I don't recall you jumping to his defence in this same way if I recall correctly.
You put way too much stock into the crap that the media write as if the fans on here aren't already skeptical of their stories. In a lot of cases, they're playing catch up and react to what fans are saying. We're still waiting for them to get off this 'winning ugly' talk as if we're still playing beautiful and entertaining football. Most of the Ozil flack, their finding on social media and forums and just trying to spin a buck.
