We've talked about United's squad lacking real quality for years and now results are reflecting that. Fergie is the GOAT and I think any manager would have struggled with the squad really, although their piss poor transfer window was down to Moyes and his lack of pull.

It is an average squad now managed by an average manager who still thinks he's in charge of Everton.

They'll point to Carrick and De Gea all they like, but the fact is they have two top players (Rooney and RVP obviously) surrounded by crap.
They have a few players who are way past their sell by date in Evra, Rio, Vidic, Giggs, even Carrick is 32 ffs.
They have "promising youngsters" meant to be the next generation who just aren't "promising" in Jones, Cleverley, Welbeck and Zaha. Saying that, Cleverley is 24! Christ he's worse than I thought.
They have a few players who are at best inconsistent; Nani, Valencia... Hernandez goes incognito, maybe even Kagawa can fall into this category.
And then you just have players who have no business being in a squad aiming for top 4 nevermind the title; Young, Buttner, Anderson, again Welbeck, Cleverley and dare I say it Fellaini.
*Carrick and De Gea aren't crap though....

Mix that together with a manager with no belief in himself nevermind his players and the inability to put a team out which actually has a functional midfield, it's no surprise they're where they are right now.

In a way though, them crashing and burning as they are may be the worst thing, because it could spur them into getting the chequebook out and pulling a few rabbits out of the hat, whereas if they were just bumping along they may develop a misplaced confidence in the team that they could turn it around and the shitness creeps up on them instead.

    As it is, I'm just

He said it himself today, he couldn't take rvp off because people would have questioned him.

If he can't have confidence in his own decisions he's got no business in a job that high profile.
NOTE: The location of this post has been moved and the thread title (which was previously Wenger is Leaving) has been manipulated by a notorious pro-Wenger moderator. What was previously a message that contained no profanity and made a comment on a real life event has now been manipulated by a deliberately provocative title. An old and crude propaganda and censorship technique.

Carrick is obviously not crap. Their first-team is good and their squad is obviously behind Chelsea or Man City's level but about as strong as Arsenal's. Ferguson has been the best manager but these are the same bunch of players that walked the league by 11 points in May. Everyone seems to have a different opinon on what is going wrong but when all is said and done, they'll be in the top 4 by the end of the season. Title's looking more and more unlikely by the week though.

By picking out Carrick and De Gea I was trying to separate them from the crap as well... though frankly it was a piss poor way of doing it.

They've got two 'stars', but a lot of the other players are better than they're showing. I guess we'll find out soon enough. I've already changed my mind a few times on how they'll do this season...after they beat Arsenal I was sure they'd be in the title race. Now I'm sure they'll finish at least 4th.

If you think they'll finish top 4, who do you reckon amongst the 8 teams above them, they'll displace to get there?

I'm not trying to be condescending, but a number of people here have never known United to be outside the top 4 in their lives. It is understandable why there is a refusal to believe despite all the mounting evidence that they'll finish outside the top 4.

But the odds are now that they will.
