Any signing under Wenger will be like rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar would prefer a move to Inter Milan this January over Arsenal or Liverpool, according to the player’s agent.

Huntelaar is widely expected to quit current club Schalke inthe new year, as he has less than six months left on his current deal, and the race is on to land his signature.

Arsenal and Liverpool have both expressed a huge interest in acquiring Huntelaar, but Inter Milan are also keen, and agent Arnold Oosterveer says his client would jump at the chance to sign for Inter over the other options.

‘He would not mind playing in Milan again – especially because Inter would give him the chance to show he is a great player,’ said Oosterveer.

Huntelaar has already had one spell playing in Italy, having initially joined Schalke from AC Milan, where he struggled to live up to expectations.

Schalke have already refused to sell Huntelaar during the January transfer window, but it’s thought that a bid in excess of £10million should be enough to get the deal done.

Llorente and Big Sexy up front could be quite brutal.

    Sign him up, Ivan.

According to the versatile defender, he received an offer from Arsenal in the summer – but turned it down because they wanted him to play as a holding midfielder.

Alex Song was sold needlessly and perhaps Arsene Wenger believed he already had a replacement in Vertonghen but it fell through, he told Dutch website NUsport:

(Arsenal’s interest) was concrete, but they wanted me to be a controller in the midfield, an Emmanuel Petit-type. I’m not afraid of competition, but the overall picture of Spurs appealed to me more..

Ultimately, I just came to play at centre back. Gareth Bale had to play left back, but it did not work so he pushed forward and I moved to full-back. I see myself still as a centre-back. I’m not agile enough to play against players like Nani and [Raheem] Sterling.

Vertonghen would have been an excellent buy. The Gunners clearly lack depth in a variety of defensive positions including the holding midfield role and at left back. He could also have been rotated with Vermaelen from time to time, and at present Arsenal need sufficient backup at centre-half with Koscielny sidelined.

a revealing insight that. i would've thought that when you are managing expectations and money of such a large size you would be wise enough to have a few back up plans in place rather than not getting the man you want and then going to diaby next.

sure, he wanted to play in defence, fine. so who's next on the list, who can we buy to replace song? seems quite straight forward to me but what the fuck do i know.

Wenger has always done that. If he can't get who he wants then he sticks with what he has. Its not only on the pitch he lacks a plan B

Don't forget we have (insert name) who can play there also.
