Yeah reckon Shaktar would be more tempted by a plate of dogshite than Denilson to be honest, looks like we're going to have some serious problems offloading this deluded soul......and here I was hoping they would let us have Willian in an exchange!

Maybe if we threw in Squillaci...

Good defender? Koscielny?

He is better than Toto admittedly but as a great man once said, "shit being better than shit is still shit"

Plus more chance of Shakthar saying yes to Kozza as hes younger and there is a chance however small that he might not be shit in future

Serious question. It looks like we will sign samba and gervinho, if wenger signs cahil too and perhaps one more. Is it enough or do you want more?

We still need a player with experience of winning stuff or with some star quality, preferably a big name. I'm tired of us always going for 'unknowns' or lesser quality players just because we want to save money. If we were in for Sanchez for example that would make a statement of intent, we won't obviously.

Although Gervinho looks a good buy long term, he's not going to be at 100% for most of the season. Will take a few months to bed in and then will be off for the ACoN in January, meaning there's a good chance we won't see him at full ability for half the season.

It's time for the board to man up.

i dunno how neutrals can comment with so much conviction about players that have only had one year in the prem. all its based on is highlights and one or two live matches.

Some of us have moved to countries where they show all the premiership games in full and you can watch them at your leisure. I've seen enough of Tiote to pass judgment - he came highly recommended by Steve McClaren of all people - ha - he got that spot on. Excellent player that will only get better and tough as nails and a real workhorse - talk to any Geordie fan and they will also tell you that him and Ben Arfa before his leg was smashed by De Jong - were absolutely bargain signings - and I would've loved to see them both in Arsenal shirts.

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell believes that the value of Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas has gone down since last summer.

The Catalan club failed to sign the 24-year-old Spain midfielder last year.

"If last summer we offered 40m euros (£35.1m) for Cesc, since then there has been wear and tear, now he's worth less," said Rosell.

What a pathetic attempt to bring the price down. Who is he trying to kid?

Arsenal (http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/clubs/t3/arsenal) will face a battle for Gervinho as Lille prepare to offer their striker a new deal.
Arsene Wenger (http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/term/arsene-wenger) looked set to loosen his purse strings with a £12million bid for the Ivory Coast star but the Ligue 1 champions will not be losing their main man without a fight.
Lille general manager Frederic Paquet - who earlier this week revealed talks between the two clubs over the 23-year-old were at an "advanced stage" said: "We are in negotiations with Arsenal over Gervinho.
"We received an offer from London and although our intention is to offer a new contract to our striker we will talk to Arsenal."
Gervinho played an instrumental role in Lille's double-winning campaign, scoring 18 goals and providing 10 assists in all competitions but his exit could help secure the services of the highly coveted Eden Hazard.

I played against him in our local under 16's league. He was just a bit of stuck up prat, bitching to the ref if anyone touched him. It was well known that he was being scouted for professional clubs so I guess everyone was a bit envious really and roughed him up when they could. He was shit though so no one could understand why, very easy to knock off the ball.

Seen him out several times in the bars and clubs in MK, especially when he was on loan at the Dons. Typical mind of a footballer, 95% of people didn't know who the fuck he was but acted like he was A-list.

Arsenal are considering a move for Inter Milan's Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o after he revealed he would like to try his hand in the Premier League this coming season. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is also keeping tabs on Germany Under-17 striker Samed Yesil. The 17-year-old is yet to break into the first team at Bayer Leverkusen but has attracted the interest of a number of clubs across Europe after some dazzling form in the European U-17 Championship earlier this year.

The north London club could be on the verge of a double transfer coup after opening talks over signing Bolton defender Gary Cahill, and their former midfielder Sebastian Larsson, who is a free agent after leaving Birmingham.

Wenger's side are also poised to complete the signing of Lille forward Gervinho for £10.6m in the next 48 hours.

This guy sounds like a tw*t, he'll probably end up playing for some Sunday league team.

I'd rather play manu at the start of the season before they have really got going. We did OK last year at OT - yeah, I know we lost 2-1 but they did not play well and we had to score their winning goal for them (thanks, Diaby) and without bad luck, we should have won that one, or certainly been good for at least a point. I think they are more nervous at the start of the season, growing in confidence through the season, so that is the time when they are most vulnerable and giving us the best chance to nick 3 points at their gaff.

Is this another one of those players AW likes to go for, from the French league, not that well known and not too expensive.

Not that excited about him either tbh, I'd like to see more established players preferably, who are a bit more proven at the highest level.

i think we've been railroaded into having a lot of dross on high wages becasue we've had a period where we cant go replace them due to tight transfer spending / too many kids in the first team squad already. ergo they can write their own tickets and hold us to ransom and we have had to agree to those wage demands.

IF we are re3balancing between project yoof and recruiting quality due to being more comfortable financially we can call players bluff when they ask for more than they deserve (eg clichy, nasri)

CESC FABREGAS: 'NEVER SAY NEVER' TO REAL MADRID

CESC Fabregas opened the doors to Real Madrid yesterday by saying he would 'never say never' to a move.

Last year, Fabregas said that he would only leave Arsenal to go to Barcelona.

But according to Spanish football website, Marca.com, the Arsenal midfielder has now changed his mind and opened the door to Barcelona rivals, Real Madrid.

Speaking at the launch of new fragrance Angel Schlesser, the playmaker said: "I would never say never."

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has always had his sights on Fabregas since Barcelona offered £40million for the player last year.

Well that would give lie to the oft repeated statement that Fabregas wants to leave because he wants to win things and wants to go home to Catalunya.

He reminds me of Wiltord. Striker/winger type and the goals I've seen him score look a little untidy. Not really impressed with what I've seen so far. Doesn't look super tricky or quick, not so sure about his shooting technique. Quite a lot of taps ins and running around the keeper type goals but no real bullet shots, precesion strikes or anything like that and we need more of that because he won't get as much time on the ball here. Only if we signed Sessegnon. Was so impressed when he came here with PSG to play in the Emirates Cup. Damn shame he's gone to Sunderland. He's skilful, can pass, powerful and has a bullet shot. Oh well.

We'll see what Gervinho does when he arrives but I think he's going to be a back up player for now. I can't see him starting ahead of Nasri, Arshavin or Walcott. Could be a good sub when legs are tired and we need to switch it up. We need players that are willing to take on their man on the flanks.

Let's face it who would want these guys, Wenger may have kept hold of them for years but most managers wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

As for the signings, we seem to be linked with a load of players......noone signed yet though, other clubs have managed to sign players with relatively no fuss. Not convinced these names we're being linked with are actually going to happen anyway.

Gervinho possibly but noone seems convinced about this guy, not exactly what we wanted.

Stoke (http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/clubs/t110/stoke) are preparing an audacious bid to sign former Real Madrid star Mahamadou Diarra.
The Mali international was signed by the Spanish giants from Lyon for £17.5million in 2006 but fell down the pecking at the Bernabeu following the arrivals of Sami Khedira and Xabi Alonso last summer.
He moved to Monaco in January but is now ready to move on again and that has alerted Stoke boss Tony Pulis (http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/term/tony-pulis), who believes he can thrash out a deal for the 30-year-old.
Pulis is also keen on Birmingham defender Scott Dann (http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/players/p19188/scott-dann) but faces a fight to land the 24-year-old, with Liverpool (http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/clubs/t14/liverpool) and Aston Villa (http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/clubs/t7/astonvilla) also reported to be keen.

Anderlecht have said they are in talks with Chelsea over the possible transfer of Romelu Lukaku to Stamford Bridge.
The 18-year-old Belgian striker has been linked with a move to the Premier League runners-up for a few months.
Anderlecht general manager Herman van Holsbeeck said: "There is still a long way to go in the negotiations.
"We are indeed negotiating with Chelsea, but there are other clubs we are talking to."
The teenager has also been linked with Chelsea's Premier League rivals Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham.
He was linked with a move to England in January (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/9301949.stm) but instead stayed with Anderlecht until the end of the season.
The transfer could involve Blues midfielder Kevin De Bruyne joining the Brussels club on loan.
Van Holsbeeck added: "It could happen in the next half hour, it could take until 31 August - that is football."
Chelsea appear to be negotiating transfers despite being without a manager since May following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti.
This week they were reported to have had a £22m bid for midfielder Luka Modric rejected by Tottenham (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13789159.stm).

not a downgrade on Clichy

had a good season last year

played well when I saw him which was more than just against Arsenal

I agree Bines would be expensive, one reason being his extra feature that we praise him for - his free kick tking

would take him over Enrique - shit its not my money but if it meant using money, say what we planned to use for anothher quality striker midfielder than this time I would go for the cheaper option - selling Clich to someone should pay for Enrique anyhow I would think and may pay a large part of a Baines transfer

saying that the Baines gossip front has dried up a little

Based on 1 season right?

Clichy has consistently been playing in CL & on the International scene for the past 3 to 4 seasons, admittedly he's gone off the boil the past few seasons but to suggest Enrique is far better than him is laughable.

Enrique only emerged last season, he wasn't even that highly rated in Spain prior to his move to Newcastle.

Clichy has been consistently shit whilst playing in the CL and international level. So much so that when Evra was banned after the World Cup, it wasn't Clichy who took his place.

Jose Enrique has been consistent since he joined Newcastle. Couldn't care less how he did before that in Spain. Remember that's a country where if you aren't a Barca player then you're regarded as shite with the bias they have towards the barcunts but that's another topic for another time.

All we need to know is Enrique is better than Clichy and is a must get

Not seen much of Enrique tbh but as much as I like Clichy, I don't think it would take a great deal to replace him. I don't think full back is a particularly influential role to play, unless you're someone like Alves. Someone defensively adequate is good enough IMO.

I'd prefer to keep Clichy but just like Nasri, if he's not interested then it's time to say goodbye.

LDG

Fuxake. Gibbs is better than clichy. And will only get better. Just needs to be taught, and he'll be fine.

Nigel winterburn was awful, but he did what GG told him to do.

Point is, it's about the organisation and coaching of the defence, Clichy hasn't learnt a thing in 6 years. Gibbs is already better position wise.

Marc Overmars
18-06-2011, 09:30 PM
Dunno bruv, Gibbs hasn't looked that great IMO, granted his career has been stop-start with injury but I don't understand why he's been elevated to this status of being ready now. Clichy's form over the past few years isn't much of a measuring stick lets be honest if that's what we're using.

I don't think Gibbs has played enough consistently to really show what he can do.

If we lose Clichy we must replace him properly and not just bank on someone from project youth coming good.

LDG
18-06-2011, 09:43 PM
Nah, I just think as Gooners we often see greener grass because we fuck up so many times, when in actual fact, pound for pound, we've got just as good already in place.

Clichy, were it not ofr his inability to concentrate. Is as good as evra....easily. But evra is diciplined.

Gibbs tracks players, shows them inside, and is more useful going forward. He doesn't have the same instinct for cutting the ball out as clichy does, but that is all the good clichy does...anticipation.

We don't need new blood who'll likely as not be replaced by more of the same. We need a defensive coach.

If GG could get a spastic lile winterburn to stay in shape, you could get a fluid good footballer in Gibbs to do the same. Nigel was only 22 when he came to the club.

No he (Clichy) hasn't. He's gone off the boil over the past 2 seasons.

In regards to International level he's had to contest with Evra & Abidal, both of these players are far superior to Clichy & hold first choice positions for United & Barca.

Enrique has only really been consistent the past season, the season before that he wasn't even guaranteed first choice there.

No he's not. Gibbs has potential but if anything has regressed like Clichy this season and pretty much shares the same flaws in his game as Clichy. Where Gibbs excels is in his offensive play and crossing, if anything his positional play is worse than Clichy's. Gibbs is always crocked too, he shouldn't be considered first choice until he sorts out his fitness. He's a project and should be treated like one and not thrown into the team.

Everton's Marouane Fellaini has insisted that he will move on in search of Champions League football, claiming the club are not at the right level for him.

Fellaini, 23, cost Everton £15 million three years ago and has attracted the attention of Europe's elite with his performances for the Toffees, as Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid have all been linked. An ankle injury ruined his prospects last season, but the Belgium international is adamant that he can do better than his current surroundings.

"One thing is certain, I want to play in a team that wins trophies and play in the Champions League,'' he told Belgian media. ''Everton is a team of sub-top."

The midfielder has a contract which expires in 2013, although talks have broken down over a possible extension. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/928946/everton%27s-marouane-fellaini-keen-to-move-on-to-chase-glory?cc=5739

Anyway great quote from A-M

English players have "grit and determination" because their first red card offense they commit is called a yellow, first yellow is called a foul, and half their fouls are called good determined play. Take away the homeland advantage and the "grit and determination" would disappear. (as seen in europe/internationals)

Why fly all the way up to newcastle to buy Barton when you can buy Tiote who is twice the player?

What about this scenario...assuming we have about 45million in transfer funds...
Keep Fabregas for one more season (but make a deal with Barca to sell next season - on the condition they give us David Villa this season for 25million - then Cesc will only cost them 25million next season), Keep Nasri on the wing for one more season and move him to the middle when Cesc leaves next season.
Play a 5 man-midfield with Walcott, Cesc, Wilshere, Song, Nasri BUY some reinforcements to go with Ramsey and ....Diaby...who I'll give 1 more season to prove himself... Christian Eriksen 15mil, Cheik Tiote12mil, Florent Malouda 18mil.
Bulk out our current defence. Sell Clichy, Koscielny, Squillacci, Almunia and BUY Cahill, Samba, Begovic(keeper to Challenge Szezney and Fabianski 3rd choice), Van der Wiel (right back competition for Sagna), Baines (Gibbs to compete).
Sell Bendtner 10mil, Arshavin 9mil , Denilson 4mil, Rosicky 2mil, Eboue 4mil, and Buy Eto'o 29mil for good measure. Van Persie, Eto'o and Villa to rotate (Walcott/Chamakh to play as 4th striker if needed). Play 4-4-2 and 4-5-1 so as not to be so predictable.

I really think Begovic is the keeper we need to go after. Would really challenge for the number 1 and Fabianski looks like he'd quite easily be swayed to sit it out on the bench behind Chesney.
Van Der Wiel didn't have the best season - but I still rate him and reckon we could get him relatively cheaply - would be excellent cover for Sagna and we can let Eboue go. Left back am less convinced. Don;t think Everton would really let Baines go.
Cahill and Samba are very realistic targets and hope we get both. If we start the season with a proper defensive line-up I would be more than happy. Wenger needs to be ruthless - he's hanging by a thread.

If Wenger signs Barton he's seriously lost it and need to GTFO.

Assuming we still want him this one could drag on all summer. One thing is clear, we won't be getting him on the cheap.

BLACKBURN star Chris Samba has told the club he wants to join Arsenal.

The 27-year-old defender was linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium in January but talks between the Gunners and Rovers broke down.
Samba then penned fresh terms at Ewood Park which will tie him to Lancashire until 2015.
But Anuradha Desai — chairperson of Rovers' owners Venkys — admitted Samba iss still keen on a move to north London.
Desai said: "We don't want to let Chris go. I'm confident that we can keep him and I hope he'll stay.
"I know he has an ambition to play for Arsenal but I hope we can keep him for another year at least and prove our own ambition."

What's new, don't most of our attempted deals drag on way longer than they should?

He's got a long term contract, they've just lost another defender...naturally they're going to want decent money for him, maybe we should have signed him in January.

I don't think they like us, that seems to be another problem in buying from the Prem, nobody will give us decent deals cos we're a bunch of foreign arseholes that need to be gotten the better of by the native British, witness Hughes blocking the Schwarzer move. Only choice is pay over the odds or walk away, we've been choosing the wrong one for a while now imo but hopefully will be willing to spend a little more and maybe swallow a bit of pride.

Hughes would have been a fool to accept peanuts for his first team goalkeeper. He wouldn't have been able to sign anyone else with the money we put up. No point in doing such deals. If there is no benefit in selling the player, then why go ahead with it?

Has nothing to do with us being foreign either. Tottenham paid silly money for Bent, Villa paid a lot for Bent, Man U have to pay a heft price for Young, did the same for Berbatov. These days you have to weigh up the value of the player with how much he's worth to the club.

I just edited my post, I agree with you, well apart from the not liking us bit....nobody gives anybody in PL decent deals if transfer are taking place. You either pay the going rate or look for something else.

Yeah, there are a lot of factors but I think our 'relationship' with other clubs in the Prem is something that often gets overlooked, you really think Shawcross would cost us and Man U the exact same amount (assuming we'd actually try and buy him)? Not saying it's a massive factor but something worth taking into consideration, most people are more willing to do business with those they like and respect rather than those they hate and demean, I get the feeling with most northern chairmen and managers we're more in the second category than the first.

In terms of Hughes, Fulham were willing to sell as they rated Stockdale and we offered a decent price for a guy that close to 40, whether Hughes blocked it purely down to footballing reasons or whether his spats with Wenger had any effect is pretty subjective, you can't prove the way someone thinks but imo his bias informed his decision.

ADEL TAARABT has sensationally claimed he is a top transfer target for Arsenal and Chelsea.

But QPR star Taarabt admits his big-money move is stalling as the London rivals mull over his £10million price tag.
The Moroccan is hot property after his dazzling form helped fire Rangers to promotion to the Premier League.
And he said: "QPR are demanding £10million for me and for now clubs aren't moving too much.
"I've had contact with Arsenal and Chelsea but it's a bit of a mess.
"Arsenal haven't sold Fabregas yet and Chelsea don't have a manager but I'd like to stay in London. It's the best city in the world."

It would be funny if we sign the player that has exactly what we need and all those that slated Wenger for being too true to his morals/ethics or whatever start crying over it.

Barton, that is, not Taarabt, another small French attacking midfielder probably isn't what we need.

ALAN PARDEW is refusing to give up hope of keeping Spanish full-back Jose Enrique at Newcastle.

Enrique, 25, is yet to respond to a new contract offer as he enters the final year of his existing deal amid speculation that he will quit St James' Park this summer.
Arsenal are the latest club to be linked with Enrique, joining Liverpool in the hunt for a player who was one of the Magpies' most dependable performers last season.
But boss Pardew is desperate to hold on to him with Kevin Nolan having quit for West Ham and Joey Barton's future uncertain.
He said: "I'm still hopeful that Enrique — who was a big, big, big, big player for us last year — stays at the club and we can entice him to stay.
"We are not confident we can keep him, but we are not scared of losing him. It's somewhere in between, really.
"When you have only got a year left on a player of his ability, of course you are vulnerable, and I think it's nervous times for us."

If he did sign it would be another sign Wenger doesn't have a clue about what fans expect.

If fans want to see things on a purely results basis, which many claim, then they have no real leg to stand on against Barton, he'd help get us results and improve the team.

Well as i always do, i look on the bright side of things and Barton coming to Arsenal will surely be the catalyst of all Arsenal fans turning on Wenger and getting rid of the fuckwit once and for all.

We can then hope the new man in gets rid of Barton asap and by get rid of, i dont mean selling him, i mean killing the cunt

can you see Samba in our shirt though? When it started circulating at Xmas we wanted him i have had a mental image of him in the red and white, roaring as he heads another stoke throw in away from goal while simultaneously headbutting Shawcross and giving Rob Huth a yoga noogie.
