Tbf to Serena, her ranking is down to her hardly playing than the loss today

There's that and not defending the ranking points she gained by winning this last year.

But from now on she'll have nothing to defend, so with the women's game the way it is, a casual stroll to the US Open title (and some smaller tournaments if she can be bothered) will shoot her back up to the top.
